He doesn't trust youth players. He'll always choose a player who has demonstrated the ability to play at a high level over a youth player who might, heaven forbid, need time to bed in. Probably because he has limited interest in sustained success.

Shaw is obviously going to be quality. Hes better than most left backs at the same age and has experience that some dont get until their mid 20s. Hes had a shaky start due to injuries and fitness but when hes played, more often than not hes done well.
