For me it's not based on the 'laws of their country so we have to stick by them'.. It's about the processes they have in place for their own citizens which is very light but to anyone else it's a different ball game sadly.. Why offer rehabilitation for 10 years but then still turn around & bring in the firing squad while murderers rapists spend life in their cells? You've answered it mate, I believe they do it to make an example to the rest of the world.. I've heard today apparently the lawyers of the Australians are taking the prosecutor to court for claims of corruption..
Thy tend not to execute the foreigners, usually a long sentence, but are often shipped back to their own country after 8 years.. Now the corruption side....pay enough, and owt can happen.
I can't see how they have any complaints, they knew the rules before they went there, at least the Indonesians are prepared to carry out their threat of death, if it was here they would probably get a slap on the wrist and sent home after claiming benefits. I've spent a bit of time in Bali and I agree with you Aussie85, it's a **** hole.
I don't like the death sentence but the fact is that they have it. And these guys did what is deemed to be deserving of it. They don't really have a case to answer unfortunately.
the two who were executed were the purchasers, organisers and possible distributors of heroin in a country where lots of young Aussies holiday. Get them hooked there and keeped them hooked when they return home. They stood to make huge amounts of money but chose others to carry the drugs. Hard to feel sorry for them.
Tragedy in my opinion, regardless of their crimes...State execution surely has no place in civilised society..
They tie them to a cross..A firing squad of 12, but only 3 have live rounds, command to open fire is given on the drop of a sword. If they are still alive, they are then finished of with a bullet to the head.
Are there any countries in Europe that have the death penalty? If i am correct, the UK still has it, but only for treason....maybe wrong on this one mind.
No the UK as all EU countries had to abolish the death penalty full stop. As RAW says, in 2015 we really shouldn't be allowing state sanctioned murders.
I don't think that any country in the EU has the death penalty, and it certainly does not exist for any crime in the UK. However, I can see where you are coming from, because the death penalty for high treason was not officially abolished until the 1990's..
To change the subject slightly, I recently saw a play about Ruth Ellis (the last woman hanged in the UK) that was based on the true events of her life story, and the one thing that hit home was the obvious mental health issues she was suffering from at the time she killed her lover..It was unbelievable how she was issued with a death sentence considering the evidence and circumstances.
I wouldn't mind reading the book of Albert Pierrepoint, the last British hangman. I did once read a book called the last executioner, about the Bankok Hilton prison. One part particulary stuck me me. They used to execute them ,by strapping the to a cross, and lining the gun up to shoot through the heart, but from the rear. Anyhow they had this woman all strapped up, the gun was lined up, and the executioner came in, (all he did was pull the trigger), he fired a burst of 6-7 rounds into her heart from the rear..Doctors then pronounced her dead, and she was untied and took into the next room..job done. A few minutes later there was a comotion, and on entering the room, there was a prison guard trying to strangle the woman who was supposed to be dead, seems she wasn't. The doctors had made a major **** up, seems she was one of those rare people, who's heart was on the opposite side..So now she has been shot and strangled, maybes time to give her a 2nd chance? No way, they re tied her up, and did it properly... Harsh but true.
You need to read it Comm', I have, its fascinating, will give you the human side to what actually happened. It also highlights the issues of killing an innocent person, Pierrepoint covers that well in the book. I think it was the Ruth Ellis case which finally made him re think the death penalty issue, which in later life he became opposed to.
Would you feel the same if someone raped your children & then slit their throats? I know how I'd feel marra.
Exactly Nos. No one on here seems to give a toss about the countless families ripped apart by the drugs peddled by those convicted. FFS lads, have none of you witnessed what drugs do to those left to pick up the pieces. Let it be a warning to those whom try it for an easy payday.
