    Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers speaks to BBC Sport: "We just lacked that killer instinct in the final third. We are disappointed with the goal. Apart from that we didn't have too many chances against us. It was poor defending from us. We didn't come out together and Dawson is onside.

    "We were never enough of a threat. It's been a mark of the season really, in that final third we have struggled."

    On leaving three players forward on defensive corners: "It's a tactic to encourage them to bring players back which they did do. It left it numerically fine in the box but you have to be aggressive. We don't come out as a group and that left the central area free, he gets a good header and scores a goal."

    On the race for a top-four spot: "I think that's not the reality of it. Our fight is to perform better through to the end of the season. It was always going to be difficult for us. The opportunity was tough this year in terms of where we were at as a team."

    Our loss of form in the last 8-10 matches is so damn familiar.

    There is no doubt that we had an easier run in (on paper) than the mancs. Yet we managed to make it ****ing easy for them 4-5 matches before the end of the season.. <doh>
