Charlie's netted a number of goals for a team that has not been good, consistent or provided much in the way of service. The points raised about him being a bit slow are fair and I'd certainly surmise tht that he's far from a complete player, but he does net goals. He's got a few years left and I think can maintain himself as one of the better producers if given the right team. I don't know which one that is, certainly not a Chelsea as he won't get the playing time, but one that has enough behind him to create more chances. He does remarkably well when given those chances, which aren't many with us right now and that's one of the reasons I think he'll do well elsewhere.
A big desperado team outside the top 6 will buy Charlie and break their transfer record fee paid. Who are the biggest wannabe team you know? To me, that club is NEWCASTLE.
And Phillips according to HITC Sport """" Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he believes that Charlie Austin won't be the only player Queens Park Rangers lose if they are relegated this season. Austin has scored the bulk of QPR's goals this term, but Redknapp believes that Matt Phillips' performances will ensure that a top-flight club buys him should the R's go down. At the moment Chris Ramsey's side are firmly lodged in the relegation zone and Redknapp has warned QPR supporters to expect departures should they fail to escape the drop. Premier League[/a] player," Redknapp said. Phillips was actually a reserve player under Harry Redknapp, so Ramsey should be praised for the job he has done with the winger. Ramsey has made him a key part of his first-team plans and Phillips has rewarded him for it, with the trickster providing plenty of chances of his teammates. SEE ALSO: Report: West Brom want 7-assist star, only Ozil has created more chances Phillips' form has helped QPR improve since Ramsey has taken over, but it may be too little too late for the London club. At the moment the R's are four points away from safety and with games against Liverpool and Manchester City to come, their survival chances are starting to look bleak. """"
I suspect that, if we go down, we'll have a wholesale changeover in the team in terms of our top (saleable) performers. The Financial Fair Play penalties levied against the club plus the loss of revenue from being out of the PL it's going to be a big fire sale at Loftus Road. That might not be all bad either as it will allow the new manager (or Chris Ramsay) with Les Ferdinand to build around a core of players that fit a specific vision and style of play.
Yeah, he's not really all that good... Diego Costa and Charlie Austin revealed as Premier League's top two performing strikers Austin has the league's best shot accuracy rating 67.1 per cent, ranks fourth for assists (four), fourth for goals (17) and the sixth in terms of goals per game (0.57) Premier League top 10 strikers (2014/15) Player Goals Goals per Game Shot accuracy Assists Diego Costa 19 0.79 63.2 3 Charlie Austin 17 0.57 67.1 4 Harry Kane 20 0.69 60.9 3 Alexis Sanchez 14 0.48 65 8 Sergio Aguero 20 0.71 52.6 6 Olivier Giroud 14 0.67 55.3 3 Wayne Rooney 12 0.41 50 5 Papiss Cisse 11 0.58 56.3 1 Wilfried Bony 10 0.4 52.4 2 Robin van Persie 10 0.42 45.3 2 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/diego-costa-charlie-austin-revealed-5564615 If he can do this with our squad then the only way is up for Chaz at a bigger club with better service.
It's an interesting conundrum - playing with better players, better service leading to more opportunities would suggest he would score a hatful - if he can do what he has done for us with the quite limited resources you might think that the sky is the limit - but he wouldn't be the first striker to move up a level and find that it's not all roses. Playing for a big club comes with a new set of challenges - not least the expectation that, with all the resources in place, goals will automatically follow. Nevertheless pace is sometimes overrated.. look at players like Klose who had the knack of being in the right place at the right time - I'm not saying that pace won't help, but it's not the magic pill to unlimited goals (e.g. Walcott). The fact he has scored at every level puts him into the 'right place-right time' bracket, but who knows whether he has the mental strength to cope. The penalty misses against Hull and on Saturday, while desperately sad for us in our position are perhaps indicative that he has some mental fragility when under pressure. That when push comes to shove, and in particular when he has time to think, he isn't entirely bulletproof. Much has been said over the last couple of days about how his demeanour changed after the penalty miss, how he drifted out of the game. That in itself might be worrying for a top 6 club. And playing for a big club inevitably means rotation - time on the bench - small fish in a big bowl. After being a big man at a small club I wonder how being more invisible in the dressing room might sit. I always quite admired Matt Le Tissier for his devotion to Southampton - not that clubs didn't come knocking at the door, but that he knew where he was happy. Pretty sure there are a lot of footballers out there for whom happiness is something that comes after they finish playing.
I think a lot of the doubt that some of us have is based on the fact that most teams play with a loan striker (not all I know). With Charlie's very limited all round game he is not suited to this kind of set up imo.
It will be interesting next season to see the team. If we get hit by a big FFP fine then we could be in the Championship or lower for some time however if we don't i expect us to make a quick return. I don't like the Championship and although this year has seen some good playing teams (Bournemouth/Watford/Boro and 1-2 others) the rest are rubbish and it's poor division. Thought the days with 100 police to every fan when we play Millwall or 'Your not fit to wear the hoops' chants playing Reading were over. It is going to be a real come down going to Rotherham on a cold Tuesday night, although i do enjoy Bristol City away (lets hope it another hot sunny day)! The thing i shall miss most is MOTD/SKY because we will get that tw@t on the Football show!
He was **** why gloss over it !? His penalty miss was the ultimate in bottle job behaviour . the one time we needed him and he ****ed it.
Don't be too cheerful or optimistic about QPR on this forum, look what happened to the last forum member that tried to talk up Ranger... please log in to view this image
We never make any real money on a player......why is that?!!!!!!!!!.........................is it because he has no pace and cant take a penalty?
It would appear Jimbo is correct. The West Ham Keeper was boasting about how he put him off by telling him he knew where he was going to hit. Austin did indeed bottle it
Hardly the one time we've needed him. He's carried this ****e team for two years. He's played for this club through injuries that would have kept lesser players out for weeks. He runs his ****ing nuts off week after week and often gets appalling service or any help from Zamora or the midfield.
