Very few people will argue with him winning that award or being included in that team, which shows how well he's done. Hope he can nick a few more goals in the remaining games to ensure that he's top scorer in the country and the Premier League. Looking a little burned out at the moment though, unfortunately. Nice to see a youngster come through our ranks and make a big impact. Great example to youth players around the country and a good advert for the club's academy. Seems like a humble bloke in interviews, too. Hope he stays grounded.
And to Alex Pritchard in the Championship team and Alli in League one team ( and Luongo, even if we did sell him).
And Nathan Byrne, who we also sold. Buyback option on Luongo might get used in the summer, but Sherwood's after him. Got to be an improvement on some of their very, very average midfielders.
It's a fantastic achievement for Kane. It's even better both because he's an Academy product and seems to have such good character. I don't mind him not winning the senior award, actually, since that leaves Hazard the player of choice for the silliest rumors (not to mention the Real tapping up.) Kane and Erikson both do look a little tired at this point. On the other hand, it may be that teams are getting more and more determined to stop them with numbers--leaving openings for our other attacking players, both of whom scored last game. Pritchard, Carroll and perhaps Luongo and Alli should make the competition for central spots very keen this summer. If we could get the right pacy winger, next year's team might be greatly improved.
As bad as Paul and Dembele have been at times i think it might be asking a bit much for 2 div one players (Luongo and Alli) to come in and improve the team/matchday squad tbh. But stranger things have happened.
I don't think anyone would be surprised by Hazard and Kane for the awards. Kane benefited from the weight of goals in the second half of the season. Hard to see how Aguero could be left out the team based on his first half performances, but then he got injured. I'd have him over Kane if I was picking the best striker in the PL alongside Costa. And I'd pick Silva before Coutinho.
Coutinho has a good spell every season where people come out and rave about him and then he fades into obscurity again.
It's unlikely. But the emergence of Bentaleb, Kane and Mason last year and this year was so unlikely I can't help wondering if some of our other youth players would shine in the PL if given a chance. I hope Paulinho and Lamela start the rest of the year to get a better idea what we should do with them. Dembele, I think, has been more consistent. He's very strong and is great at holding onto the ball, but brings it forward too slowly. Paulinho has been very good one game, awful the next but may work well with Bentaleb. Lamela, while a bit up and down as well, seems to be improving overall.
Agree, we need to play Paul and Lamela. We have nothing to play for. We either play them into some sort of form or we put them in the shop window. The only thing that could go wrong is they are so bad that nobody wants to take them from the shop window (although i would keep Lamela next season anyway. Hanging onto hope here)
Congrats to Harry, Alex and Dele. All had superb seasons, excited to see the latter two hopefully make an impact next season. Well done to Massimo Luongo and Nathan Byrne, too. Always nice seeing former academy lads do well. As for Coutinho being in the TOTY, what a joke. I understand he has a fancy bit of skill to him but he's way too inconsistent, even looking at it statistically, he's hardly set the world alight with 4 goals and 4 assists in 30 league games. Eriksen and Chadli, who could have had a much better season if they found some consistency were statistically better, both scoring 10 while Chadli has 5 assists to Eriksen's 2. I don't see why Coutinho merited a place in that team above those two, and I wasn't even calling for them to be listed in it anyway!
Why Costa though? Both he and Kane have only had one season in the league and there's hardly anything that seperates them in terms of performances. Kane hasn't had the luxury of playing infront of Fabregas and Hazard yet seems to be able to score all types of goals. Costa's done a similar job to what Van Nistelrooy did in finishing the chances gifted to him in the box. Both Aguero and Kane have more to their game and can be a threat anywhere on the pitch.
True. Kane has had an outstanding season and his fellow pros voted for him so who can argue? I think he's been chosen over Aguero because he was the man in form when the votes were cast. I don't think Costa has a better case, but being part of a successful team helps his cause. He's also been difficult to play against physically as well clinical in front of goal as a lone striker. Kane and Costa are the leading scorers and have scored against the greater number of teams; it's usually the strikers who do that who get picked.
He is now, but not at the time of voting. I wonder if voting was at the end of the season, would he get the vote? 13 players scored 10+ goals. Which club has the most? Danny Ings stuck on 9 - which has done for Burnley, I think
Ah, I thought you might've meant that but the way it was worded sounded like you were in the present. They should have the voting at the end of the season, what's the point in doing it in March(which explains Coutinho's selection) and having the final awards in April with 10 games to go. Yeah, that's us! Chadli, Eriksen and Kane. One man team my arse
