I must have missed this. In everyone else's world it was Fabregas and Costa who flew out of the blocks.
Di Maria started well, goals and assists and his overall play was good. Fabregas and Costa started even better but may as well have gone on holiday (along with di maria) in january. None havr been good at all for a long time.
Sooooo.....do you now accept that saying player of the year was not up for debate was absolute nonsense then?
For what it's worth I think John Terry should have won and I think that he will win the Football Writers one. It's not been a season where there has been an absolutely outstanding performer though. Hazard is merely the best of an inconsistent bunch when it comes to forwards.
I think Terry not being on the short list was a glaring omission. Think Hazard deserved it though myself; as I've said before, I prefer exciting players to win if possible.
I can see the argument for Terry, although for me that would make it almost more of a consistently good long serving player award rather than actually being the stand out player of the season. Bit like Giggs in 2009 where the general consensus was he won it cos he was still playing well despite being old and largely written off in previous years, despite a fair few of the Utd team alone being better than him that year. Ultimately like you say there was no stand out individual. I'd have given it to Harry Kane for his impact on his team and in the big games. But then I can see the argument for Hazard, and he did decide the game between us and Chelsea.
Hazard has been consistently excellent bar yesterday And a three game spell over Xmas. The level he has maintained week in week out has been fantastic this season
I wonder whether any club as had all the 11 players of the TOTY ? That would have had to be some team.
Best midfielder in a genuinely awful game? It was like watching peewee football. Nobody had any idea what they were doing or what the point of football is. That second half was one of the worst ever.
Not at all. De Gea is still the most consistently great player in the entire league. He did have an off game yesterday. People just dont vote for keepers. Its not cool.
I agree. De Gea should have won it, he's been good throughout the season, Hazard had a slow start but has picked it up in the 2nd half of the season and got some crucial goals and assists. It's called player of the year so I take it they mean year then as in 2015? The 2014 part of the season doesn't seem to matter.
Whether you think De Gea should have won is a matter of opinion that you are entitled to. Obviously people who actually play the game disagree with you but that's not the issue....it's that you said it wasn't even up for debate. Embarrassing really.
Agreed but Arsenal gave us a much better game than United, that's for sure. The game versus United was much worse. How was the second half at Goodison?
