To be fair, Hull has very few hotel beds, they'll all be booked anyway just for Beverly/Newbald/Market Weighton section, the fact its a bank holiday and for the Arsenal game on the Monday. So the amount the City could have made would have been limited, not to mention the huge outlay if we hosted a section.
I will certainly be at North Newbald to see them through, at least with the climb there you have a chance to see them for a slightly long time than on the fast sections.
Passed through Thornton Le Dale the other day. Blue bikes everywhere there and in surrounding villages. Typical that Hull people are dismissing it. If Hull council had got involved it would be a wonderful thing, a chance to showcase this great city etc, etc...
It would have cost £100,000. They would have got that back. I bet there are other things and events they spend far more on. Do you think the Arsenal game, for which they have laid on a special train,(poor things they must be pissed off their club ispaying for a train instead of handing out t-shirts) will have any affect on hotel bookings?
There's a Tour de Yorkshire accommodation list, it has hotels/B&B's in Brid, Pickering, Helmsley, Northallerton, Whitby, Scarborough, Beverley, York, Leeds, Harrogate, Skipton, Wakefield, but lists none in Hull. I'm sure there'll be people staying in Hull, but they don't seem to be making much of a promotion out of it, if you search for hotels offering Tour de Yorkshire packages round here, it just throws up Cave Castle and a few Beverley hotels.
How is inventing a bike race based on an annual world sport event any different to my "silly" suggestions?
Any proof your suggestions would bring 57 camera crews here? Is the World's Strongest Yorkshireman different to Yorkshire's Strongest man?
But Hull Fair brings in hundreds of thousands of visitors. Surely that benefits Hull and doesn't all disappear into the backpockets of travelling families to buy bigger and better luxury trailers and cars to tow them without being burdened with paying taxes? Then there is all the money darts and wrestling as according to our portfolio holder for culture these two sports are popular in Hull as well as rugby league. Football can't do much as he never mentions that.
Are you criticising Hull council for not spending a ton of money? Admit it Fidel you'd have attacked them if they had spent the money. Wicked waste, loony left, etc, etc.
I don't live in Hull so the shortcomings of HCC don't directly affect me like they do the misguided people who vote a bunch of deadbeats in time after time. However,I do think it was short-sighted not to be involved. It would have cost them £100,000 and they would have got more back for that outlay than some of the things they will quite happily spend that amount on.
Why isn't it called The Tour of Yorkshire as opposed to Tour de Yorkshire? What is it trying to achieve by using the 'de' in its title? I'm not fooled, I can see it for what it is. Bummers, I'm with you on this one.
And whilst I'm on the subject I wouldn't open my curtains to see it if it was passing through my garden. Or if I did it would only be to make sure they weren't cycling on my newly treated lawn. It needs a twist to make it unique to to this area, giant Yorkshire puddings for crash helmets or something. As it stands it can do one as far as I'm concerned.
Couldn't tell you. That sports the biggest pile of pony going, I honestly couldn't give less of a **** about it. It isn't even a sport anyway, it's all about who's got the best car. FACT.
Apparently the literal translation is Grand Prize. Big in French is gros. Vaguely remember from schooldays.
