http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32473770 So Patrick Bamford gets player of the season but doesn't get in the championship team picked by the players, go figure ?
I think the team was probably roughly right although would have said Gomes and Cathcart had a good shout... but Gomes has a reputation of making mistakes although he saved us in so many matches, and Cathcart probably does his work a bit more unnoticed! Listening to Bournemouth fans I know, Ritchie has played maybe half a dozen good games, otherwise it's more about his set-pieces, so is a bit lucky to be in there! I don't think Abdi played enough really, although defintiely one of the most skillful in the division and probably doesn't get enoug recognition outside of Watford... and Guediora hasn't played enough for us, otherwise would have been a good shout. Doubt we could have had 2 strikers in the team considering Murphy is the top scorer in the division! But yes... we got the most inmportant award of promotion - and hopefully the Champions trophy on Saturday!
How about our top five this season folks??? In no particular order Deeney Ighalo Gomes Abdi Cathcart But what about Vydra Guediora and a cameo or two from Watson ????
Hard to argue with your top 5 Yorkie although I think you are being evry harsh not even giving consideration to Lloyd Dyer or Keith Andrews... Watson has really made a difference since coming in.
I was just thinking about Dyer..... and reflecting on if he hadn't been such a pr@t he would have been in the Prem with us next season... goes to show that amateur dramatics don't get you to the big stage..
Dyer and Andrews did fantastic work for the team spirit... by leaving! So very good shout!! My top 5, probably in order; Deeney - for his goals but also leading from the front. His work rate in so many games lifted the team (just ahead of) Cathcart - just so consistent and a couple of important goals too Ighalo - Him coming and scoring so many certainly lifted the team and the fans, and made us 'believe' Gomes - Yeah a ocuple of goals he could have done better, but so many important saves have won us games Guediora - hasn't played so many, but him coming in did really seem to push us on, and especially coming back on loan!
To me what's interesting is that other players don't see us as a team of individuals...promotion was a team effort.
Absolutely agree. The team ethic (and I include the coach/manager/backroom staff in the team) was the final ingredient in the mix for promotion which GFZ never quite accomplished and BS was in danger of fracturing. To me this was the most important factor that SJ created. Yes, you can have the most talented players in the Division and you can be the best tactician trying to mould them, but without that team bonding and spirit it counts for nothing.
Agreed and SJ achieved it... we had the players on the whole... they needed bonding plus a good tactical approach ( I thought BS was less of a good tactician)
