Aluko was great yesterday but we still have the same problem with him. He's just not consistent enough, one game he's full of confidence and the next he's completely invisible. He doesn't score enough for me either, my worry is that unlike N'Doye/Jelavic he rarely gets in scoring positions
On the whole I agree - but frankly he's bringing more to the team at the moment than Hernandez generally has.
He's brings something a bit different to the table, flair, gives us a bit of edge. I agree Hernandez should be doing this for the money spent but Aluko is a bit of a secret weapon for us
He doesn't need to be scoring if he is impacting on the team positively with movement and flair, this is the point lost on Tigeroo - you'd think after quite a few years as a team that doesn't have goalscoring strikers generally that some of our fans would appreciate we can get results without them if the tactics and players are right
I think Aluko has been fairly misused as a striker, he's to weak to shrug off challenges in the congested middle of the pitch. He was good playing there in the championship because his skill and speed was enough to avoid those challenges against lesser defenders but at this level they're all faster, stronger, smarter and/or technically better. He could do well playing behind a striker with wingers offering him proper support but I think we'd see the best of him out wide personally. Looks every bit a winger to me. I rate him though, unlike many others, and I hope we keep hold of him whichever division we end up in.
And how many goals has this 'bit of flair' brought us. I judge "strikers" on how many goals they score NOT players. Aluko does not understand the word 'pass' nor is it in his vocabulary. He is 'bound-for-glory' every time he gets the ball. I have great anticipation of a 'N'Doye/Jelly' partnership where I believe both will play to and off each other.
Which is why every time you comment on them, people don't take you seriously. He isn't a striker to me, he's an attacking midfielder who keeps getting played up front. But he played really well on Saturday and it'd be really harsh to see him dropped on Tuesday.
The 'point' is NOT lost on me because when he gets the ball he loses it 9 times out of 10 because he won't part with it. Our 'goalscoring' strikers are Jelly and N'Doye and I look forward to these two partnering each other when Jelly is fit. I pray that Stoke City will offer us 12 million for Aluko (that's a joke Ethel) and someone comes in for Hernandez.
Right, so if you play two goalscorers and one gets injured, who steps in? Another goalscorer? Why didn't the goalscorer on the bench start if he's so good? There will never be, at our club, a moment where every single striker we have is a goalscorer. Ever. It isn't how football works anymore.
Yes, I have seen him play like his @rse was on fire quite a few times but there is little or no end product. Why would he be dropped on Tuesday? For Hernandoesn't?
Because SB might decide that he wants a different tactical approach and might drop him in favour of N'Doye up front by himself. Liverpool at home is a different kettle of fish to going to Selhurst Park. One of the problems SB seems to have is that if a team does well, he sticks with it, instead of changing his side to match the opposition. At team that does well against Palace might not be the right one to face a team chasing Europe.
WHAT 'goalscorer' on the bench? We don't have one! Strikers are supposed to score goals. Hold-up players hold up the play - we don't have one. Target men are there to win the ball and get it to a 'striker' who hopefully can score - we don't have one. As you say, "who steps in" when Jelly and/or N'Doye are injured. We have been decimated with injuries this season and players, like Aluko, have been played out of position because there has been no other options which shows our lack of depth.
But Hernandez has never ever been a goalscorer in his career, SB knew that before he signed him, so why did we shell out so much money for him? He's shown a few times this season that he works well with a partner, linking up play. Granted, he's taking his sweet time getting comfortable in the Premier League but the signs are there he'll be decent. I think he's a bit different to Proschwitz and Altidore, they looked useless from the beginning and were supposed to be goalscorers, whereas Hernandez never really has been. Strikers are expected to score goals, but not all forwards are goalscorers, we've done this to death. Target men, hold up players and the like are types of strikers Jamie Vardy, Marvin Emnes, Lacina Traore, Emile Heskey, Marko Arnautovic, Harry Kewell; all examples of STRIKERS who weren't/aren't goalscorers. And they were/are strikers, because they never played in goal, defence or midfield (although some, such as Vardy, occasionally play as a wide forward, as N'Doye has for us).
I've said it before and I'll say it again Sterling, we have to agree to disagree on this subject as it has been done to death. Have a nice day. P.S. I am having Salmon, boiled potatoes and Avocado later.
This is why people don't have the time of day for you. They raise a legitimate counter to your point and you ignore it.
