It's different in a 1 off CL game.. stick Stoke in the CL and of course they'll do badly, but in a regular Premiership season where it's just another game it's totally different.

facepalm, you lose <laugh> You are wrong and it annoys the **** out of you<laugh>

This just proves my point, the money is much better spread in the PL, yet La Liga teams still manages to have a better title spread than the PL. and the points gaps ect as well as games lost are very close despite the masssive disparity in money

Competitiveness in earnings is not the same as on the field. Atletico are competing despite being miles behind money wise.

Atletico's financies could be compared to who/s in the PL? Southamptons?

Like I said, ina 1 off game yes.

But in a 1 off game you'd expect City to thrash most teams down the bottom, in fact you'd expect all the teams at the top to beat the teams at the bottom... but they don't. And that's the point, teams down the bottom of the Prem often outperform themselves, especially at home and cause upsets against the big boys.

I'm not saying Madrid wouldn't cruise our league, they probably would, but I don't suspect Ronaldo would score 50 league goals a season in the Prem because in a hypothetical world where they are just another PL team like Chelsea & City, teams would do a better defensive job.

La Liga is a better title spread PL? **** off <laugh>

La Liga is only ever competed by 2 teams with Atletico being an anomaly last year. At the start of each year, even if you include Atletico you only have 3 teams who would get close to challenging.

The Prem, at the start of the season you can easily put Chelsea, City, United & Arsenal as being able to challenge for the Prem and then an anomaly like us every now and then.

I know you're now probably going to post "number of different winners in last X yeas etc" but that still doesn't tell the whole story. Last year there were 2 teams possibly winning it on the final day, same as 2 season before when City won it on GD. Our league often has different teams at least competiting for the title at the top, where as La Liga you'll always have those 2 and now and then Atletico.

Put it this way, Madrid & Barca wouldn't drop out of top because they are so far ahead of all the others where as in the Prem you can easily say there are 6 teams who all have a decent chance of top 4 meaning any one of Arsenal/United/Chelsea/City could drop out of the top 4 each season as has been proved in previous years.

How is it? They battered us for 180 minutes without even hitting top gear. Same with Barcelona against Man City, they finished them off at the Etihad and it resulted in them not even having do anything in the game at Nou Camp.

    You haven't debunked anything?

It's not about 1 set of stats, it's the whole thing put together.

2 teams dominate La Liga as shown by the fact that 1 team has challenged them in the last 10 years or so since Benitez took Valencia above them. The teams at the bottom offer no thread as proved by the amount of games they've lost/won in the last 50 played between them.

The top 2 are better than anything in the Prem, but as a whole the Prem is far more competitive throughout. Everyone knows that...

There is this need for the epl to prove it is competitive yet even in the lower tier europa English teams still struggle. The premier league looks competitive because the quality gap between the top and bottom is smaller. Ronaldo would still score 50 and so would Messi

That said quality wise technique and tactically the spanish league is way better.

There is parity in the top 5 in la liga (despite the huge gap in money) with the PL top 5 (but City and maybe us have grossly underperformed)

    La Liga top 5 2013 2014
    Games lost 33

    PL top 5 2013 2014
    Games lost 33

This season it's 30 PL 27 La Liga but, City and US have been dreadfully poor

I will say that the points gap between la liga 5th and 1st last season was very big, almost double what the PL gap was between 5th and first but it's worth noting that Everton were overachieving by a lot. 72 points and we admit Liverpool certainly overachieved last year, otherwise that parity that we see this season would ahve een there last season, but also Real Madrid and barca are just so good compared to any teams not just the rest of their league.

The money is a factor of course but, pound for pound La Liga teams behind the big money earners compete more per £ disparity than PL teams do

So it's not fair to compare Liverpool or Spurs to Atletico Sevilla Bilbao Villarreal because the clubs have much more money. But it is woth comparing how they compete.

In the end to prove anything here, all messing aside and wumage, you need to get your stats on, I mean statistical analysis to the nth involving all teams money ect ect, and I couldn't do it, and if I could I couldn't be arsed.

But a cursory glance at the stats show that even though there is a huge money AND quality gap between La Liga's top sides and the rest compared to the PL top sides and the rest, La Liga sides consistently do well enough per £ spent, better than PL sides, and in Europa it shows, which takes me full circle back to where this all kicked off.

But no one has proen **** here, me included. <ok>

The PL and English football as a whole is far more competitive. You only need to look at the FA Cup for further proof, when would you see the Spanish equivalent of Bradford knocking out the top division Leaders while the Spanish Boro beat the Spanish City away from home etc...

Upsets happen far more in England becase the lower teams are at a better quality and have far more fighting spirit when it comes to playing the big boys.

Like I said, 3 wins in 50 for La Liga bottom 5, compared to 13 wins for Prem's bottom 5 <ok>

You do realise that those stats could show that the mid and upper mid tablle sides are competing better than their PL counterparts which would be a reason why the bottom sides get less points.

Just saying you can flip those stats, in fact I just did.<ok>

I started this off by saying those "middle" teams are competing better than their PL counterparts which is why you see them win more, especialy in Europe.

Spanish middle teams given they get far less than their PL counterparts money wise bring more trophies back

I remember United dismissing the EL and getting decimated home and away against Bilbao, who looked a far superior side than the PL's flagship team, Bilbao then went on to be well outclassed by another Spanish also ran Atletico in the EL final.

PL is more competitive. But doesn't mean it's of a better quality. The fact that Man United are in the top 4, and Man City have had a poor year and dropped a million points recently but are still there.

Looks like the cry of a desperate man, the sentiments in the article are aimed at the owners as much as the supporters, his back's against the wall and he knows it
The part about bringing the correct type of player in during the summer is really because he wasted the mega money he had last year and is responsible for where we are now, he doesn't dwell on the reason we are well below the standard of last year be its down to him(and the departure of Suarez of course)

I think he knows the owners will give him at least another season and if so let's hope he's less stubborn and that he buys the best quality available with the transfer funds he's given.

Oh, and that he keeps his gob shut whether we're doing good or bad.<grr>

    Id have to agree

To be on this theme like like now seems to be sending messages that are that should be occurring behind closed doors

This guy is worried about being called to Boston I reckon

In any event...... What I found amusing in a sick fatalistic way is his comment about looking at starting next season much faster than this but only looking once season is over

One would hope that's not actually how it's done as I felt having seen our preseason stuff that our U.S. Tour stuffed us up as it did Utd

I can bet anyone van gaal will not allow it ever again but I bet we've a big it inert of circus acts all lined up with actual preparation to play not part of it
