Lots of speculation as to who will arrive this year, will we be able to get some quality and experience to blend with our young squad.

However, what is more critical, I believe, is who will leave. Without departures, we will not be able to add in the summer really so making space is just as key as filling it.

We already know that the likes of Gerrard and Johnson, 2 of the clubs biggest earners will depart. But who else will we lose? Borini, finally? Mario? Lambert? Our trio of useless strikers.....useless to us anyway....perhaps we'll get £20m for the lot! Toure will go this year surely? Quite a few of the loanees haven't done that well so perhaps they'll go. Who else will go? Lovren maybe?....Although I can see us being stuck with average players on good contracts as per Borini....

Why is every transfer window so critical to us? A sign of prior under-investment perhaps.....or maybe that the current regime are inept......either way, we have to have a window more positive than negative.....last years turned into a bit of a nightmare!!

Player of the year cannot leave. I mean Mario Balotelli.

We need to sort out the squad numbers

Coutinho will be our only player wearing a number between 1-11

  5. 1. As much as people want it to happen, Jones won't leave IMO. He will remain the number two after Migs' improved form.
    2. Johnson will leave
    3. I'm not convinced Enrique will go but then, he's been ignored most of this season so will we get the option?
    4. I've got a feeling Brod will retain Toure. He likes the experience Kolo brings to the dressing room.
    5. VACANT
    6. Can't see Lovren leaving after just one season unless we get a sizable offer. Would anyone be willing to pay £14m+
    7. VACANT
    8. Gerrard's departure is already confirmed.
    9. Fully expect Lambert to move on

    10. The impending legend stays put!
    11. VACANT

The numbers in bold are what I expect to be available.

Jones is out of contract this summer isn't he? I imagine someone younger will be brought in.

Toure's out of contract as well, not sure they'd offer him a new one. Could see him staying in a coaching capacity though.

I also think Lambert will go and Lovren will stay.

the fact we don't have a star wearing the number 7 or 9 is pretty criminal tbh

  8. I knew Toure was out of contract but I'm expecting (but not wanting) us to extend it by a year.

I didn't know Jones was out of contract though. At 33 yrs old, maybe he will be allowed to leave then.

  9. I think you can add numbers 5 and 11 to that too.

The biggest question is, who will be the guy to stand up and take on the number eight...?

    so for the OP

the question is money in or wages out that frees up resource?

    My view is:

    Frees

Gerrard goes 130k per week approx
    Johnson goes 100k per week
    Toure goes 90k per week
Jones may be on a free this summer... not sure
Flanagan (for greez, out of contract)

    Sales:

LFc should be shifting the following MUCK

Borini. he was 14mil after relatively successful loan. a poor year and i'd say 5.. if we are lucky.
Lambert. Take anything 2 mil? would be nice is suppose
Balotelli. Get what we can. its a 75k min wage plus fee if we got 10mil i'd be shocked.
coates: bad loan so i can;t see what we will get. signed in 2011? must be cloase to end of deal .2/3 mil max
aspas.. might get 2mil of spanish dross side
Enrique. knee is gone. prob get nothing not sure about contract.

that is just the total dead wood

    10 players....

then we've the not really good enough category

    allen
    alberto
    Lovern
    Lallana
    manquillo (sorry not great attacker)
    wisdom (rodgers thinks so anyway)

    thats another 5

    then theres

    I don't like him:

    Skertl

then theres the in demand section:
    sterling

all in all its easier list what won't go

Can't argue with most of that except maybe Manquillo who hasn't really had enough game time to prove himself properly and Lallana who I think is a good option, just not a regular first teamer / someone we should be relying on to be world class week in week out, because he's not and never will be, but he is a nice rotational player or sub.

  12. Flanno isn't out of contract, he signed a new deal last year.

Actually have reasonable faith in the club to try and fill the 8 shirt (or position) with someone good.

We'll have the wages free, reasonable funds and need another shirt-seller.

Rodgers: Flanagan will get new Liverpool FC contract

Reds boss says young defender, who has recovered from a knee injury, is part of his plans

BRENDAN RODGERS insists young defender Jon Flanagan remains “a big part of the future” at Liverpool.

The Academy graduate’s current deal expires this summer but the Reds boss expects a new contract to be agreed over the coming months,

Flanagan finally returned to full training last week after missing the entire season following knee surgery. He won’t be considered for Monday night’s Premier League trip to Swansea City but Rodgers hopes he will soon be competing for a first-team spot.

The 22-year-old full-back played a big part in the Reds’ title challenge last term when he nailed down a starting role in the second half of the campaign.

“Hopefully Flanno’s contract will be sorted out,” Rodgers said.

“He is working his way back to fitness and when that happens I am sure the contract will get sorted out.

“He is a big part of the future here. He did remarkably well last year and showed he is player who can play for many years at this level.”

This is the problem, we need to get rid of dead wood again. Same as last year, same as the year before. Nothing will change next year, we need to replace Rodgers.

  17. We need to compliment the squad we have with a couple of to quality players. We don't need a mass clear out, especially since the likes of Gerrard, Johnson, Jones and Toure look to be leaving anyway with them being out of contract.

Get another set of Strikers that Rodgers can ruin.

Mario, Lambert and Borini all have scored PL goals.....but hardly any in the Liverpool shirt
