I try my best to write in the correct form, but no doubt get things wrong, as I probably will in this.

I sometimes treat an opinion with less credibility if it's poorly written, subconsciously or consciously, rightly or wrongly.

What I tend not to do, is point out these errors, it just seems to drag things into tedious exchanges and spills onto other threads.

The increased use of devices that auto-correct means it happens more and more.

I find language interesting, and the occasional exchange has been informative, but..

The question is, does the odd typo, mispelling etc matter on here, providing it doesn't detract from the message?

"but.." An ellipsis has 3 dots. Two are meaningless.

Seriously, it is OK to point out errors to people when they make them in posts telling others that they are dense or of an inferior intellect.

Must admit predictive text throws up some beauties, as I have found out on many occasions.

BTW misspelling is one of the most misspelt words according to research.

I sometimes rejig sentences to avoid words I can't get right. Spelled and spelt is/are one/two of them.

I avoid using antidisestablishmentarianism in most my posts because it's can be awkward to get the right context to slip it into.

Same here. But that doesn't alter the fact that there are two of the letter s in misspelling.

One of my pet hates is people using the word convince when it should be persuade, as in convince to...

Part of the problem is that the rules and meaning of words change with time and usage. Sunday's child is gay according to the nursery rhyme.

Have you guys heard of 'spellchecker'?
I wouldn't be without it - especially with my spelling. Any mistake you make is underlined in red and when you click on the word you get the correct spelling.<doh>

Does it do English rather than American, does it understand context and grammar? Did you know you can accidentally add made up words to the spellchecker dictionary, so it takes them as correct?

Just a few of the problems associated with trusting a spell check.

Depends which one you use. You have named three problems which is a drop in the ocean compared to the millions of words it corrects.

I once accidentally added 'woukd' on my phone and every time I type 'would' it autocorrects the bloody thing, do you know if you can delete these things?

If it's on an android, the option comes up on the middle bar. Pressing and holding the option lets you delete it.

I've typed a wrong username in for this site, so it gives me two options. Can I buggery get rid of that.

You still can't use to after convince. It doesn't make sense. Doesn't stop people who should know better, journalists and TV reporters for example, doing so.
