After dumping Sky I've decided to celebrate by buying a new smart TV 4k, I'm thinking of a budget of around £500, any advice of where to buy or best make model would be appreciated.
Not experienced 4k but my lg smart tv has a far better picture than my more expensive Sony.If I was looking at getting a new tv I would be looking at the LG 42UB820V 42 Inch 4K Ultra HD Freeview HD Smart LED TV at £459 at Argos and Currys. May be cheaper elsewhere. Whilst the magic wand is ok its a lot easier using the internet with a wireless keyboard (mine is a logitech K400r).
LG seem to very good for smart / HD / 3D stuff Not sure about 4k I looked and decided to leave it for now, something to do with everyone waiting for the new generation of HDMI connections to take off, and very little 4k content yet
I've got an LG. **** knows what model. It's a big bugger. Smart. HD. That kind of thing. Runs Netflix, BT, external hard drive, streams internet football. Handles everything very well. Did a bit of research. Most bangs for your buck. Bought it 18 months ago. Happy with it. Mind you, I never get to watch it. Wife's always got it tuned to QVC. She's a dimonique junky. And has a serious Moulton Brown habit.
for £500, I personally wouldnt bother with 4k.. get the best 1080p you can find. check this site out http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/category/reviews filter for under £500 and the following ratings - Highly Recommended, Reference Level, Best in Class..
Took your advice, rang Curry's head office and was amusingly told that they don't stock that model, rang Tesco head office, said they had two in stock at St. Stephens, went down there, viewed the picture on the display model, which I have to say was absolutely amazing compared to the standard HD TV's on display, went to order...no stock...****ers! So I ordered click & collect, should be with me Satdee, I'll report back. Anyone know of a good home for a Samsung 50" Plasma in excellent condition, available Satdee?
Here's a list of programmes broadcast in 4k - Alternatively get a Panasonic plasma and get a more natural picture, though it will cost more than £500.
The LG was stood alongside more expensive Panasonic plasma's in Tesco, comparing the picture quality you wouldn't have picked a Panasonic. I must say though that years ago I had a Panasonic Viera which had fantastic picture quality for that period, things have moved on, and yeah I know that there's not currently a lot of 4k content, but that's now, I'm future proofing, at one point Panasonic produced the best TV's, things change...
Personal preferences I know, but I prefer my Panasonic plasma, which is a higher end model, to 4k TVs which I find give an unnatural picture. Panasonic have stopped making plasma so surprised Tesco had them in. Plasma nearly always look poor in comparison to LED orLCD TVs in a brightly lit shop but at home it is a different matter. Another thing to consider with 4k TVs is not only the lack of 4k content but also if streaming 4k you need a pretty good speed on your broadband. Also some 4 k TVs look impressive in the shop playing 4k content but don't do a good job of showing standard TV pictures. Just my opinion, the most important thing is what you find is the best for your needs.
Dunno, they may have been Panasonic LED TV's, all I know is that nothing else on display matched the picture quality of the LG. I have KC fibre, up to 100mbps so streaming shouldn't be an issue, I'm pretty sure it'll be fine but as I said I'll report back.
Looked at Argos and the 4 stores in Hull/Anlaby had them in stock. Did you get a better price at Currys?
When I found they had no stock in Tesco, St Stephens I went across to Argos, put their catalogue number in their stock computer thingamajig and it came up as no stock, so went back to Tesco and ordered click & collect. You were bang on correct though, the picture quality on that TV looks truly amazing!
Your screen quality can be too good also, get a good hd tv and your normal DVD's and SD programmes will look a total bag of ****. I don't know if the jump up to 4k will do the same or not.
Hope you enjoy the tv. I was looking at the lg skype cameras but £70 seems steep. Fortunately found that in Carrefour in Turkey they are about £20 having just gone up by £5.Going to see my daughter there so hopefully the exchange rate remains high!!!
Cheers, I'm off to Cyprus in September but I expect they'll be more expensive there, let us know how you get on with it as I spend most of my day connected to Skype, might be handy to have
