A Tory History of Great Britain

Pre-Roman Britain - druids, pagans etc. Sounds a bit hippyish - must have been Green Party rule.

Roman Britain - Damn Europeans trying to run the country. OK, so they gave us roads, irrigation, sanitation etc but the groundwork was already laid by the previous Tory administration.

A strong foreign policy by the Tories sees off Viking invaders.

The Dark Ages - also known as Labour rule.

Norman Conquest - if only a Jeremy Clarkson type had been in charge - he'd have seen them off. Blame the BBC.

Tudor England - Henry III disposes of four wives after discovering they had secretly been attending Socialist Worker meetings. Raleigh and Drake (Tories) make Britain proud. Tobacco sales bolster a booming economy. The first potato that looks like Neil Kinnock is brought back to England. The Tories see off an invasion by Santander Banking Corporation.

The madness of King George III - sent mad by a Labour government awful foriegn policy.

Victorian Britian - The Sun never sets on the Tory empire. We gave the world steam and industrialisation. Stephenson's Rocket breaks records, would have experienced lengthy delays under a Labour administration.

20th Century - October Revolt sees the red army gain power = instigated by Labour. Churchill and Thatcher save the day although it takes most of a century for the Tories to undo the wrongdoing of the left. Labour and the EU try to spoil it again but fail to diminish the Tory Glory Story. Ted Heath scores winner in the World Cup. Neil Armstrong puts the moon landing success down to his lucky blue Conservative underpants. Mother Teresa is discovered to be John Major's pen-friend.

21st Century - Blair's a ****. Dave defeats Scotland but magnaimously decides to let them stay on the Tory bandwagon. Boris is a superhero.

No problem, I was just wondering how you had such a clear picture of Britain under Labour. Or have you just recently emigrated?

I know that! But you didn't ask him who started the peace process, you asked him about Labour's achievements in that term, one of which was the Good Friday Agreement..........regardless of who started the process (or who fanned the flames the opposite way). Blair played a blinder in that one.

    Its really quite simple Sir

I left (emigrated) the UK in 2002 for a number of reasons and like Oslo the government at the time helped me make that decision.

:emoticon-0100-smile Like it, although even in Tory World, Henry III would have had little relevance in Tudor times, since he'd have been over 300 years old

A couple of relevant news items I guess...

Election 2015: Voters 'left in the dark', says IFS

please log in to view this image

Four of the major parties have not provided "anything like full details" on plans to cut the deficit, the Institute for Fiscal Studies has said.

"Broad outlines" of the choice on offer were on show, it said, but voters were "somewhere in the dark" over cuts planned by the main UK parties and SNP.

The report came as the Conservatives said a Labour government backed by the SNP would be "deeply unstable".

Labour said the Tories plan "the biggest cuts in the developed world"

    And...

Majority Of Scots Think Union Will Split, Poll

With two weeks to go until the General Election, the rise of the SNP is proving a real headache for the Tories and Labour.

    By Faisal Islam, Political Editor

The General Election campaign is increasing the likelihood of a split in the Union, according to a survey for Sky News.

The Sky Data survey indicated more than 40% of Scots believe the campaign makes the prospect of independence more likely.

NOTE: I'm only posting this as I found them interesting, I'm not expressing any sort of personal opinion on the two news items.

    Have a nice day.

    Peace!

Well, you go away and earn some money for yourself, your company and the taxman and come back to the thread that is the bellweather of the British psyche and find it's in need of urgent psychiatric treatment.

Lot of chaps with a fixation with a dead dominatrix figure who didn't believe that society existed. Since when has the words 'sovereign British territory' been a mystic incantation (which only applies to islands with 1800 white inhabitants, and not territories with 5 million Chinese, Indians and others who were equally anxious about being swallowed up by their nearest neighbour. Perhaps the quality of the opposition played a role. But what difference would that make to a people of conscience, courage and principle, commited to the right of self determination for people living in their 'sovereign' lands?)?

I'm getting the impression that the Tory leadership may be more humane, balanced and reasonable than some of their supporters. But both groups are clearly rattled, leading with a paranoiac, hysterical fear driven campaign. Perhaps there will be a mass exodus of the right(eous) after the election, maybe to the booming self-determined society of the Falkands (they have broadband you know).

We are truly drifting into the arena of the unwell.

Hey Durbar, what's your problem with Faisal Islam? Don't you think people with non Anglo Saxon names (like Farage for example) can be British or comment on Britain?
