    It was based on a BBC programme which polled people. There were programmes where people put forward the case for their choice. Jeremy Clarkson's choice, which was an excellent one, was Brunel.

    Wikipedia says the polling was done in 2002 so memories of Diana were much fresher I suppose.

    Well I guess that makes a little more sense.

    Even so, seeing her considered greater than any of the other people in that top 10 is just not right.

    It's only a poll though I suppose. If it was redone now I don't think she'd be 3rd. She'd probably still be top 10 for some reason though.

    To be fair she mothered the fourth in line to the throne despite him having zero royal blood in him. That is quite an achievement.

    Actually I wonder if that's where George RR Martin got the idea for Game of Thrones?

    Herds of middle aged men in plastic St George hats and 'England Supporter Kit' flags draped over them in town today.

    Can hear them singing as they triumphantly go from Divas Bar on to Moderation, and no doubt later to Ebenezer Morleys.

    Here in England or here in Hull?

    No Irish pubs in King Billy's Hull and no sign of its faux celebration this year.

    Guinness Day has noticably diminished while real English ale has made a welcome come back, drink to England tonight chaps.
