Just been on Google news and can't see that anywhere?

    I did however find this:

"I won't ask for a transfer, no. That would be disrespectful. I hope they can reach an agreement that is satisfactory."

What is Ray Wilkins doing? On the face of it it sounds like he is merely expressing an opinion, but given his close links to Chelsea, albeit severed now yet still tangible, his 'opinion' could be construed as destabilising Modric and/or Spurs. He isn't officially Chelsea yet is he working or our behalf, or is he showing Roman that he is loyal and worthy of a new job. Remember no Chelsea manager employed Wilkins, he was an Abramovich employee.

As far as I'm concerned any player under contract is fair game for a transfer bid. Every year every Chelsea first team player seems to be ready to pack his bags after a large offer comes in, so we're used to it. If that first offer is rejected than of course there is nothing wrong with a second one. That's how haggling works. To say a second bid is disrespectful is to be ignorant of basic human civilisation. Then the matter should rest from the bidding side and as far as I am aware this is exactly what Chelsea have done regarding Modric. Until someone interviewed the 'unofficial' Ray Wilkins, whom Chelsea can clearly state was working on his own. As for Roman's yacht being in Croatia at the same time Modric was in Croatia, well Roman has a few yachts and Croatia is where nearly every European has their yacht, it is where yachts live! If Roman wanted to talk to Modric privately you aren't going to berth a huge yacht outside his front door. I just know though that for some fans a report of Abramovich's yacht(which one no one said) being in Croatia waters (where precisely no one said or who was on it as he constantly hires them out or loans them) is conclusive proof he was meeting Modric. Such is their desperation to have some kind of justified apoplexy.

The build up play is just as important as the final pass or final shot as neither would happen if the players were never put in that position by their team matse so to look at stats such as goals and assists to judge a player like Modric tells me you don't fully understand the game mate.

Latest comments by Modric strongly suggest he'll soon be a Chelsea player.
    Just hand him over Levy.

Levy told him he'd rather put him on the bench or in the reserves than allow him to walk away from his contract.

    He's going nowhere, son.

I don't know a lot about Levy, or at least as much as a Spurs fan anyway, but if a club were to offer £40m cash I reckon he'd take it and give it to Redknapp to re-invest.

Morelike pocket it and give Redknapp a third for a new player, Redknapp has previous for dodgy deals but is a novice compared to Levy

I have watched Chelsea for 30 years and followed them all all over the country and Europe, so I would like to think I have a decent idea of how the game works. I am not naive, I do understand that there is more to a midfielder than assists and goals, but the reason we are supposed to be bringing in Modric is to play behind the strikers and he will be used to be that player at the end of the build up play to provide the goals and assists and I am merely suggesting that I think that his stats in that role are hardly something to get excited about. If you look at Lampards last full season without injury he was just as involved in build up play as Modric is at Spurs and he managed to get 22 goals and 17 assists, now that IS something to get excited about. Before I made that statement we had Lampard, Ramires, Essien and Mikel to provide the build up play but unfortunately it's not looking good for Ess. There's talk now of Modric being a replacement for Ess, but they are two very different players.

This is all a game for both sides. Levy doesn't really want to keep a player that is unhappy at the club and would be mad to let him rot in the reserves and drive down the value of the player. He is desperate to save face and appear strong and in control and is playing a game with Modric to push him to create a scenario where the fans turn on Modric and will be glad to see him go.

Judging by the Spurs board I think they have already turned on him!!

Agreed that Spurs can't justify keeping an unhappy player given his value. No way would levy let him rot either and devalue the player. Ideal situation for spurs would be a foreign club comes in for him but I can't see who would be spending 30-35 million on him outside of us and the manchester clubs.

Modric if he really wants the move might as well hand in a request now. Spurs fans have already turned on him and he can blame Levy anyway for going back on their alleged gentleman's agreement. We need to raise our bid as well. 30 million seems fair in my eyes.

    Would still prefer Nasri though!!

Modric is a class act he has that bit of guile, the ability to glide with the ball and 2 assists 3 assists doesn't matter because he wasn't playing in the role we want him too , VDV arrival pushed modric deeper where he fed the likes of Bale, VDV and Lennon To feed the strikers

Build up play the link between the midfield and the attack is where we failed last year , Modric WILL be brought in to fill that gap and not as a replacement for Essien, I believe another player may be signed short term for that role, Fernando possibly

But for this issue with Modric, there would be no one posting on your board?

You should be thanking us Spurs fans for keeping your board alive, not slating us <ok>

I am hoping that if we do buy Modric he can provide those killer balls for the front men as I agree that was totally missing last season and Torres was left stranded with hardly any service. Drogba has the ability to drop deep and pick up the ball, which isn't Torres' strength and we need balls threaded through to him and Modric wasn't doing that regularly for Spurs, albeit in a deeper role. I think that most fans think a new player coming in is the best thing since sliced bread and the fans of the club he is leaving from think he's awful as you can now see on the Spurs board that there are Spuds saying he isn't that good and the Liverpool fans claiming that Torres is now rubbish.

If Modric is more effective in a more deeper role we are going to have to buy two midfielders if we sign him as we need that guile and creativity behind the strikers. Modric has a great passing and completion rate in midfield but low assists that supports the fact that he's been more effective deeper for Spurs so where are we going to play him? Will he be as good in a role higher up the pitch?
