Liverpool's squad is riddled with mediocrity - who should stay and who should go?

Need a CB so Can moves forward into DM/CM role.

Probably even another CB if that happens so that Skrtel/Lovren are backups at best.

We need two strikers(origi is on the way however he will be the backup imo). Sturridge cant be relied upon with his injury record unfortunately and unless Balo gets a brain transplant/attitude adjustment he isnt the key to solving our scoring problems.

Read we are in for that dutch striker Memphis Depay for 20mil, would seem reasonable but can guarantee the price will go up when our interest is confirmed. Our transfer policy is in need of an overhaul let alone the team.

+ Bayern and United interest , which WILL defo increase the price.

The problem we have is that we are not the top pickers in the transfer market. There seems to be a hierarchy of buyers:

    IMO

    Top rank: Madrid, Barca, Bayern

2nd rank: Chelsea, City, Arsenal, United, Juventus, PSG

3rd rank: Monaco, , Milan, Athletico,

    4th rank: Liverpool, Tottenham,

The problem is that the top rank has first pick of the talent and then what's left will be for the others unless there are other factors like " I/My family/My Dad have always supported Liverpool", swap deals because the other team was desperate to have a good player as well as money.

    At least Ibe is
The issue is that we should be looking at players like Depay LAST season where there was little interest.

And that is the problem - we're acting too slowly. Same applies to Lacazette.

Now, I've heard that these players have been scouted and recommended, but Rodgers has not persisted with them. Not saying it's true, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I think when the dogs in the street would look like this is they had heard "lallana 25mil bargain"

you have to wonder about taking a risk on an up and comer who is after all in a international squad of some repute. Depay and lazacette would be to my mind no bigger risk than markoivc at 20mil who was doing ok where he was but not amazing but we seem to be willing to take the risk at a perceived 10mil level

10 mil for can, good release, cl experience etc etc
    10 mil for origi....
    7 for ilori

the inconsistency is therefore seen in my opinion where we then suddenly say the strategy no longer appliers when it was a "proven player" and i have to buy the likes of lallana or lovern or badontelly cos buy the really good 21 year old is too big a risk.

Seem to me 10 mil lets get a <23... 20 mil on first team oh get me a >23 regardless.

We will see if it continues. I'd rather a team of uncouth children of real talent failing to get to top 4 than the muck we have failing.

At least the sell on on kids is profit most of the time.

not sure the 3rd rank really applies.

I would say yes the top rank exists.... and the second rank would nt be arsenal but the other are prob fair

my third rank would be arsenal and several clubs around and even in turkey where the moeny is bloody huge

I would agree we are at best 4th rank cos frnakly we don't pay the money.

I have high hopes for Markovic, and his price tag is on par with the likes of Depay, Griezemann who all commanded big fees at young ages.

He has struggled but in his defence, he's been in and out of the team and played in the wrong position.

Finding cheap gems like Coutinho, Can and I would include Moreno given his experience, achievements, talent, age - they all cost around £10m or less each.

Quite simply (and you've said this before) we f*cked up our big signings. Lovren and Lallana were expected to come straight into the first team and improve their respective areas. If we had signed someone like Schar or Papa or any other quality defender to partner Sakho, and if we had signed Lacazette, Firmino, Shaqiri etc instead of Lallana - I am 99% sure we would be in a much better position.

Instead, we found ourselves using a 19 year mid in defence, and a 20 year old AM as a false 9.

Buying players in the 22-24 age bracket is when it starts to get a bit expensive i.e. £20m plus but you're getting someone who is no longer a young talent, but someone who should now be hitting new heights. We did the same with the likes of Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Suarez, Torres ...

I like these kind of articles, I am tempted to do one on Everton but i would have everyone to go and Hibbert to stay.

Lots to be sold/released. Then it brings up the key question, will people be in for them? Also, will they want to leave, Borini being an example. Two clubs made a decent offer, but it was not to his liking and he stays.

Im sure at most other clubs any losses taken on players/money needed to match the wages they got/get at Liverpool will come out of the summer budget.

  8. Torres just before that under Kenny.

Mascherano just before that under Woy

Alonso just before that under Rafa.

If it wasn`t for the fact Brendan has gone backwards and van Gall has reduced the wage bill, you would be quite right here <ok>
