But you didnt say it was an option in the post that I was quoting earlier, which was why I said what I did. You say it's unrealistic to expect both all the time, but how is that different to winning in any manner? It's just as unrealistic to expect to play negative and win all the time. In fact it's unrealistic to expect to win all the time full stop. So that really doesnt come into it. The rest of the things you've said are all true but not the most important. Football for me is more than just winning. I want to be entertained. Why the hell would anyone want to waste 90 mins of their life week after week watching turgid unimaginative negative football. BTW it's not aimed at CFC, this is a general point. Somewhere along the way we've developed this acceptance that playing negative and winning is somehow necessary when it really isnt. You look at the most successfull clubs in any any league around the world, United, Liverpool, Ajax, PSV, Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and they've done it through forward thinking, attacking football built on a good defence. It's proven. Even in Italy, the game is tactical but it's not negative. They create every attack through a million calculated moves to work and pull a defence. Anyway, I'll stop now, you can probably tell I feel quite strongly about this I just dont buy any reason for playing negative "park the bus" football and I cant understand why any fan would. I'd rather watch paint dry tbh.
It is amazing how the chavs have spent 23 pages of this thread trying to argue that their team didn't play park the bus football against a weakened United team. And that Jose didn't need to do that. It is like arguing the earth is flat.
Atletico Madrid are showing how to be defensive when needed but still play a part in the game. Chelsea fans probably think they play like that.
