That's such a poor argument tbh. It's a myth that was born out of the Sam Allardyce Bolton era by the British media to defend one of their own and has now extended over time to league title winners (not just chelsea btw).

Why should we have to reconcile either? Why cant we expect both? Why is aspirng to both a good performance and a win not even considered as an option anymore?

That is why the premiership teams are and will continue to do badly in Europe. When the champions are efficient at hoovering points but cannot be bothered to play football as soon as they encounter a half decent team: park 2 buses, score one goal by a counter and that's it. 3 points in the bag. Total anti-football. If the champions of the premiership are doing this, what chance have the others?

Surely there must be a better way.

I didn't say it was not an option, just unrealistic to expect both all the time and normally I'd rather win than not. That's kind of the point isn't it? And why we all take it all a little too seriously because frankly entertainment is only one factor. As is winning, as is seeing your rivals do badly, bragging rights and all that. Football transcends entertainment above any other sport because we have such a vested interest.

So you're blaming Chelsea for everyone else's failure in Europe. I've heard it all now....<laugh>

I blame United. We go away for one year and everything falls apart.

Luckily for English clubs, United will be back to carry English clubs once again.

You mean by failing to get out your gimme of a group and then getting battered by a mid tier Spanish club in the Europa. That was great carrying. <laugh>

Yep. It was great to see the title coming home at the Bridge.

Happy with the way we played, we knew United could not score til Xmas with Fellaini shackled.

The Bridge rocked party style. Best atmos in years

Even more shame therefore that Chelsea didn't play football as champions should and opted to park 2 buses against a weakened team. An observer seeing a premiership match for the first time would have mistaken the blues as a team fighting relegation instead.

Never mind, one day Jose may see the light...;)

I think when playing title rivals you just have to get the job done. Entertainment etc should come against the lesser sides in the league you're expected to beat 4 out of 5 times.

I'm more concerned with how poorly we've played in some of our other games these last 2 seasons rather than against an in form title rival with 7 games to go.

Well I'll say what other United fans seem to be avoiding, well done to Chelsea, frustrating to watch for a United fan but totally what was expected from anyone with half a brain, it was United's job to break down Chelsea and we failed at that. Congratulations on the title, I just hope its a closer run thing next season.

    Weve all said well done.

Doesnt make their performance any better. Still one of the worst you will ever see from a side top of one of europes biggest leagues.

Must make it even harder to swallow that you couldn't get a result against it then...probably why you are still banging on about it 5 days later. <laugh>

    This.

Clubs like Bayern, Real and Barca face two buses every week and get on with it.

I reckon you should be looking at 80+ points next season, and if we can strengthen our squad and bench hopefully we can top 90.
