My post wasn't meant as a dig at OLM by the way.

I've shared a pint or two with him in the past, he's a genuine, stand up bloke and good company.

Was that two half glasses or a pint pot and two straws?

It was two half pints and two straws. We faced each other and did that thing couples do when they first start dating where I drank out of his half of mild and vice versa.

Not ashamed to admit it and I'd do it again.

Alright lads, I'm a Liverpool fan, was reading with this with interest so I thought I'd have some form of input.

This is part of a wider campaign on ticket prices. Currently we've had people meeting with our club, and protesting in the ground, to make it clear how unacceptable ticket prices are. Yes, our ticket prices are too high, yes, we should be charging you and other teams less, yes we categorise them in a way that is discriminatory. This is wrong. But the whole 'They do it too' argument is ridiculous. I don't set my club's ticket prices in the same way that you don't set yours. As far as I'm concerned I'm paying to get in to a Premier League match at Hull, why should I pay treble what a Stoke fan did in August? Because I support a higher profile team? We don't have a higher wage than other fans, we aren't special, we just support a more famous team. I didn't choose to do that, it happened before I was conscious of what my own name was.

The tickets went on sale this morning. The sale opened to people who have 18 credits from last season (so the 'Plastic thing argument someone was making before is laughable), now, we aren't in a position whereby we can just go 'Well I'll show them I don't find this acceptable, I won't buy the ticket' because someone would just wander in and take our place due to the sheer number of fans we have, so we've had to do the next best thing, buy the ticket and leave it empty. And to buy the seat there's been a mass purchase of Under 11 tickets for £11. From reading round the internet this morning there's a good few hundred people done this as well as 5 independent coaches from Liverpool which have cancelled their coaches and had overwhelming support to not go. I personally would know dozens of people in any given away end, as you do when you follow a football team every week, and I don't know one single person that hasn't taken, or doesn't plan to take, this course of action.

We've picked a battle here that we think we can win. If, and no disrespect here, we can't get people to not go to Hull on a Tuesday when our season is basically dead, then when will we manage it?

If you want to sneer at a collection of people for trying to bring down the scandalous prices of ticket prices then fair enough. Personally speaking, I think every away fan should be getting in to the ground for no more than £25 and that categorisation should be abolished. And then once we've got that, we can use this TV deal to make football more affordable for all.

This TV deal has given clubs that much more money that for it to make no difference to Liverpool's finances they could let everyone in for every game for £12.

Tremendous post, bringing real facts and considered opinions to the table does tend to blow into the water the witterings of this board's more prominent flamers.

A fantastic effort and I applaud you. If only our fans had the bottle to stand up to our disgrace of an owner this way....

Any one from hull going to this game who has not bought tickets for previous home games should be charged £200 quid for a ticket....

It's a bit late for that, they're pretty much sold out already(only single seats left).

Watching Liverpool for £20 or whatever as an example is all very well but what would Tranmere fans think to paying a similar amount to watch League 2/Conference football ? Do they then in turn boycott their club as a protest ? Slippery slope and all that.

PL match day tickets have to be set at a level that his higher then all other leagues to reflect the standard of football. I see West Ham will be aggressively discounting season ticket sales when they move to Olympic Stadium - it'll be cheaper to watch West Ham in the PL then it will be to watch Leyton Orient, Barnet, etc. That can't be right.

Maybe there needs to be standard ticket prices for all games and get rid of the categorising of matches. It's a difficult one to get right so needs careful consideration.

Why does PL football have to be loads more expensive? Just cos it has been for ages?

Fans shouldn't be penalised for their team being successful.

Considering the vast income from other sources you could argue it should at least be as cheap if not cheaper than lower league football.

What percentage of income is tickets for a club such as Tranmere (if we're using them as an example)?

Just had a look around to see how the ticket sales are going, and the ticket tout sites are still showing them at £80 - £100+ for the Liverpool end, and a little cheaper for home stand tickets. <yikes>

I'd have expected them to drop if there's a drop in demand.

The tout sites should be closed down.

Perhaps they would prefer to go and watch Lincoln City in the Conference for £18 then return to the KC on the 9th of May for City v Burnley at £16 if they want their football on the cheap.

As the objection is to £50 tickets, games that cost £16/18 are hardly relevant.

Ok then, maybe they'd prefer to watch Arsenal v Chelsea this weekend then, where tickets for Chelsea fans are £64?

Oh wait, no, they've sold out.

Let me guess, nothing to do with us etc etc?

The campaign is to limit the prices all Premier League clubs can charge away fans, so it effects all clubs, the Twenty's Plenty campaign is a nice idea but it's not going to get enough support(particularly when many league clubs are already charging over £20), so I'd like to see a £30 limit on all away tickets.

I'd actually agree with that. I've been on the 20 quid side for a while now, but discussing it last night with my brother he pointed out that very fact, and I did say 30 would be better for PL if nowt else.

Sadly, despite the volume of fans, both real and plastic, and the potential power they could hold, I just don't see it happening. The big lobby groups such as FSF and the local Fans groups/trusts really should have run a properly coordinated campaign targeting potential MPs. Its kinda stupid but some people who probably wouldnt get off their arse to vote for the NHS, Tax etc, might actually vote for someone prepared to fight for fans in Westminster.

Why as a nation are we so apathetic?
