Swansea City fans should relish these great times in the Premier League

Saturday could be a defining moment in Swansea City’s history as the Swans go in search of the single point that will secure us our highest ever tally in the Premier League.

As we approach the end of a season where many ‘experts’ at the start of the season predicted that the only way we were heading was downwards, last weekend’s draw with Everton equalled the mark that we set under Brendan Rodgers in our first season after promotion.

We have already secured a highest number of wins, thanks to a home triumph two weeks back over Hull, but now we want the next record and I am sure that Garry Monk is telling his side to not just take that record but to set the mark exceptionally high for future seasons to come.

It has always been a season where we are looking to prove people wrong. We had those that tipped us for relegation. They followed those who said we had appointed the wrong manager. Then we had the sale of Wilfried Bony when we were told that we would struggle post that sale. Bafetimbi Gomis hasn’t been good enough we heard, the defence needs sharpening, why have we bought an Arsenal reserve keeper. All these questions were asked and have been more than answered as we continue to rack up the points with a very comforting frequency.

Since Bony went we have accumulated more points in the league than Manchester City. Lukas Fabianski has one of the best number of clean sheets we could have hoped for. Gomis is scoring goals and showing that he had what we wanted he just needed a run of games in the team.

I still think we will end the season somewhere around the 54-55 point barrier which is an amazing achievement and one that whilst we will reflect on in May, will more importantly give us the stepping stone to build on in the summer and ensure that we retain the status again next season and beyond that.

We have said it so many times but this really is one of the most remarkable stories of the Premier League era and we just continue to build on it. Leicester and Newcastle away are both tough trips but there is no reason why we couldn’t return from both with points in the bag and maybe by the time we play Stoke at the start of May we could be beyond the 50 point barrier.

I have said it several times on these pages but these truly are brilliant times to be a Swans fan and I’m still enjoying every minute and long may that continue. - PHILL SUMBLER

I honestly thought you'd be struggling this season under Monk but he has done tremendously well for you. Wish we could find the right fit for our club as it seems year after year of disappointment!

Should be a good game on saturday. With your injuries its probably the best time to play you along. We have a bit of momentum behind us and can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel but we still have a lot to do. A 3-0 win for us see us out of the bottom 3 to show how fast things can change in football.

It will be a very tough game for us and you lot are the best team I have seen us play this season except for Man U when they come here for the first hour but the last 30 mins they was sunday league

I really like Gary Monk I think he is doing great job for you after being put in charge after Laudrup who did a great job. Hopefully we win this week and you lot have a good end to the season

    All the best

There is usually a bottom team who do put in a good run in desperation at this stage nearly every season and the fox's look to be that team this season so it will be a tough game for us with the injuries we have. I will be happy with a point and a record breaking season and a point towards survival for the Fox's who i hope will make it....

We took a hit with Bony going to city, and just as his understudy Gomis was finding the back of the net we lose him as well for 4 weeks, so Monk has one hell of a job sorting our goals out against you boys, just hope he plays Emnes from the start, and we feed him well, I rate Emnes, but we need to adapt to his game......<ok>

Really hope that Leicester stay up this season, I must say I've enjoyed watching them play each week albeit on the telly. Going to the match Saturday making a weekend of it staying over a couple of nights. I'm preparing myself for a defeat on Saturday with Leicester scrapping for their lives and us with our injuries problems, so the record points will have to be put on the back burner until the Newcastle game.

I'd prefer Leicester to stay up out of a few of the bottom teams but when I feel we're gonna lose our boys usually put on a good show so I'm going 3-2 to us.

Tough game indeed Proud Fox. I don't think your boys position does them justice. Imo they've been better than WBA, Sunderland and QPR all season, add Villa until Sherwood took over too.

Its going to be tough for both sides and if we can keep our composure and you guys don't panic then this games got 1-1 written all over it imo. On saying that, if we lose shape and give you the ball too much then we're in for a rough ride.

Good luck <ok> Hope you stay up, you like Burnley, have been decent all year

"so the record points will have to be put on the back burner".

    Toshack's 1981-82 team finished in 6th place,having gained 69 points.

That was in the old First Division, which was then the top Division. The Premier League being the modern day equivalent.

Since it is mathematically impossible to equal, let alone exceed, that total, there is no "record points" scenario on the horizon this season.

Maybe next time, but only if 70 points are achieved. <cheers>

It was the premiership of it's day,and there's nothing you can say/do to alter that.
Changing the name doesn't make it better.

Setting up the Premier League was the only way to reduce the top league from 22 to 20 clubs.

Just noticed - the year we were 6th in the top league Chelsea were finishing 12th in the second division. (Championship to those working in metric).

Why "of course"? Because that would somehow inflate Monk's standing in your eyes?

The old First Division was a far more competitive, interesting and overall more exciting competition, than the boring, predictable premier league.

Players' wages are a lot higher,I'll give you that. So are admission prices.

The P.L. is akin to The Emperor's Clothes.

I think the Premier league is far more demanding and competitive than the old 1st Division, there is no comparison in my view..............<ok>
