Or perhaps that was the plan and Reina threw his toys out the pram? Or we worked out we needed the spare wages to do other business or rodgers realised Reina wanted out anyway? who knows but if we hadn't signed mug, Barca had come in for Reina we'd have been forced to sell and be stuck with Jones or paying over the odds for a keeper last minute.
Or the simple answer is the way reain a reacted who was a fabulous club man and team man shows that he was as shocked as anyone he was told to go on loan to napoli. I am not against the idea that sensibly we bought a new keeper got jones was bloody awful but i beleive it was on the thought at some level in the club that it was to replace reina day one but the dishonesty is to lie to the fans.
So what happened when he came back from Napoli, surely he's a much better back up than jones and seeing you were trying to bulk out your squad and not reduce it did it not make sense to keep him rather than give him away for free?
He came back, went on preseason tour in U.S. And was frozen out If you'd a choice of staring at the back of Rodgers head or staring at the back of pep gaurdiolas head and pick up potentially 3 medals in the year what would you do?
No but I suppose we can afford Jones playing though... In the end mingolet did ok last year but this year a lot of things have been cruelly exposed
fron what I gather he's on about 80k and Reina was about 110k? 80k is what you'd expect from a first choice keeper at any top side to be honest.
Is he really? He's picked up form in the last half (coincidentally i think Reina did to), but he was an absolute travesty in the first half of the season costing you points left right and centre (hence he was dropped for jones). He was far better last season, saving you points generally (but still not a great and doesnt fit your philosophy). I dont know any first choice keepers on 80k except at the mega clubs
Since he's been dropped he's been good. He finally had a solid defence in front of him which culminated in a run of clean sheets which bred more confidence. We saw him come off his line, claim and punch crosses and make great saves. id imagine courtois, Cech, de Gea, Valdes, hart, Lloris will all be on the same or more. Not saying he's as good as those listed above but that was the going rate.
Of course.. Reina was on his way to Barca, if not then he'd showin disrespect by whoring himself out so had to be moved on to not undermine the manager/club
So why was suarez made an exception for? Do liverpool fans make exceptions depending on a players skill level
The reason i say thats a travesty is because 1. He is not that good and does not belong in that list of keepers 2. For a team who are trying to lower the wage bill abs give reasonable salaries that is a lot of money 3. These are proven keepers or at clubs where money isn't an object. I can imagine when courtois first joined our valdes when he first stayed his first team football were not paying money that great 4. Did you really need to pay minger that much money to come to liverpool. Yes the transfer fee was high for a keeper but there was no competition for him, he probably wasn't on that much at Sunderland and he was ecstatic to make the jump up to you guys. Paying him that much when it wasn't necessary if a travesty especially now hes down that he's not a top keeper
"Liverpool fans" So you think its down to the supporters whether a player leaves the club?, the two(Reina/Suarez)were poles apart in what they actually did for the team and the money generated when they left. If it would have been the decision of the supporters whether either left the club Suarez would still be the first name on the teamsheet every game and Pepe would probably still have gone. The memories of Suarez(including the controversies)and his thrill a minute skill will be there a long time whereas it'll be a case of Pepe who? in Reina's case.
Oh indeed. The reason i make a case of Liverpool fans is because there is a distinct snobbery amongst Pool fans who think they are the best supporters in the world. To giving their managers lots of time (Hodgson was one case where he wasn't) in general to the we only want players who want to play for our club, not mercenaries. I can admit as a Chelsea fan, i'd love Suarez in the team even after his misdemeaners because he is an awesome awesome player (anyway we have John Terry can't really criticise other clubs with him in our side, we still love him though) I would say Reina did a lot more for the team than Suarez. For starters he was there a lot longer and he showed as much passion as Suarez if not more. He represented the club with great integrity and stayed with you guys even when you had you barren years. He gave the best years of his career to you guys and hinted (tbf i don't know how much he 'Whored' himself out) that he would like to join Barcelona. Theres not really much that actually suggests Barcelona will buy him and he's discarded by Rodger, understandably who has to make sure he has a contingency plan. However Pep was a club legend, he was a fans favourite and now Rodgers has played the political game well and basically ruined Peps standing at the club. Suarez on the otherhand, dazzled and showed tremendous ability, but he also brought your club into disrepute. Was he racist? I know that has split the fan base, lets give him the benefit of the doubt, but he has had the temerity to bite an opponent twice and in the summer before he absolutely smashed the premierleague, he didn't just put out a proper get me out of here plea to Barcelona, but he was also willing to join English rivals Arsenal. If that is not disrespecting your club i do not know what is. Anyway, i have had my word, most people probably won't agree on this but thats just how i see it.
From the few quotes that i've read, including those from Reina, Agger and Borini, it appears that Rodgers has a problem with telling players what's what to their face. But who knows what really goes on, we can only speculate from snippets of information in the press....
