Sunderland Duo made to wait, Latest news update: 5 hours 35 minutes Sunderland have told Steven Fletcher and Lee Cattermole there will be no talks on new contracts until the end of the season. Both Fletcher and Cattermole are entering the final year of their existing deals and the Black Cats are eager to offer them fresh terms. However, they are unwilling to discuss contracts until they know which division they will be in next season. Sunderland are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone heading into the final month of the season and would consider selling Cattermole and Fletcher if they do go down, rather than risk losing them for nothing the following summer. The duo are not alone in having just over a year left on their existing contracts, with Vito Mannone another player waiting to discover where his future lies beyond the end of the season. The Wearsiders are also weighing up what to do with defensive duo Wes Brown and Anthony Reveillere, both of who are out of contract at the Stadium of Light in June. Read more about Sunderland.
Would keep Vito n Rev but Fletch, Catts n Crunchie head can go as far as I am concerned. Love Catts endeavour etc but imo he has been here under five managers. Is he one of the troublemakers a few managers have spoken of?
Totally agree with this. The old guard have got to go as they prolong the culture of failure and underachievement every year they are around and culture is one of the most difficult things to change in any institution. I still vote to give the kids a chance...they need one or two good eggs (senior players) around them to thrive. Offload the lot of the c***s to Stoke or f**k them off to do community service for the final year of their contracts and teach them a bit of humility. BTW had a hard day at work! FTM
I'd be using Fletcher as a makeweight in deals. Catts is our best player so he has to be offered a new deal if we stay up.
Making a lot of assumptions there though Gil Catts is one of our best players as @DAPARKERSAFC says. Doesn't matter how many managers he's been here under - he is blatantly a good influence on the pitch and that's all that matters to me. If you are a positive influence on the team on the pitch it is unlikely that you are negative off the pitch
Out of curiosity mate, we all know you're Cattermole's biggest fan, but would you be prepared to back the new manager if he come in and the first thing he did was sell Cattermole? Initially it may not make sense as he probably is your best or at least one of your best players, but he could become redundant if you get a manager in who doesn't want a combative DM, maybe he'd rather have a Daley Blind type player in there, somebody a bit cleverer with the ball.
I'd be gutted Terry but I would back the gaffer - the club is always more important than any one player. Cattermole is a far better footballer than people give him credit for though but, if a gaffer decided that he wasn't for them then so be it
Personally I would keep Catts as well, there are lots of others who I would let go/sell before him. Depends on price and if we stay up.
Makes sense to give him a new contract anyhow, retaining some value on his contract. I can see a lot of whispers from his agent coming his way this summer though. If you stay up, it's vital you do a lot of recruitment before letting players leave, your squad is way too thin as it is and the summer break is the shortest ever.
Spot on mate - but not so scattergun as previously! All down to Congerton Edit: I won;t back the gaffer if it's this ****er: http://www.not606.com/threads/lambert-surely-this-cant-be-true.297759/page-2 But I will question the board massively!!
MBC, I accept Catts is one of our better players but he is a good player in a distinctly average team. I may well be wrong about him being one of the ringleaders and although he may be a good leader on the pitch he most Deffo isn't off it. The Bendtner incident is one he's banned out of most Boro pubs along with Jonathan Woodgate for being a troublemaker is another. Imo I think we need a clear out.
I'd clear out most of 'em and start again TBH. Love Catts, but if he's one of the senior players causing grief then off he goes...
