according to sky sports news their about to bid for him. how much you can believe his is open to debate but if we're going in for him it looks like a bidding war
I don't want to pay more than £15M for Downing. I really don't want to get into a bidding war and then paying over £20M for him. I say we should go for Mata!
I think you're right.Theres no chance of Arsene Whinger attempting sign both Mata and Downing. So I reckon we should choose between one and the other. If the Goonies offer more than we're willing to offer for Downing..we can steal a march on the Goonies for Mata. That would really piss Arsene Whinger off.Personally I would love to see Samir Nasri in a Liverpool shirt.
Go for it scousers as liverpool are surely going to win the league by signing players of the statue of Stuart Downing, Charlie Adams and Jordan Henderson, three massive names that will inspire you to rise above chelsea and man utd.
1 "statue" i don't think we have got to the point of signing statues just yet 2 Who is Charlie Adams? Fail
Regarding statues. Chelsea paid £50 million for a statue. From January he spent more time doing nothing in a box than David Blaine.
John Barnes pointed out that all three of those players stepped up when things weren't going well for their clubs this season. What did all those "massive" Chelsea names do when Scolari was struggling? Where were they when it all went tits up for Chelsea earlier this season? Just because Wilkins got sacked? ****ing pussies. Where were Utd's "massive" names in the Champions' League final? Just how did Utd win the league by signing Bebe and Michael Owen? Mata would suit Arsenal more anyway.
By all accounts Henderson was poor in thesecond half of the season, thats from Sunderland fans I know personally so it depends what you mean by stepping up. If you mean by making himself available when he may or may not have been 100% fit then ok. You could say where were Liverpools massive names when things were going tits up for Roy. Are they pussies too ? Not arguing just showing different perspectives.
I would take those 3 against any midfield currently in the premiership..none of them will hide when the going gets tough like some.Ok we haven't spent 30+ million on them but you need a mix of types not 3or 4 prima donners who believe they have a right to play week in week out just because they cost a fortune and are paid huge wages. How much did Milner cost City? can't say they got there monies worth and he's not a bad player but looked daunted by the company he was keeping and being left out for a higher priced player even if he was playing well.Adam johnson the same,in fact more so. I know Henderson has much to prove but the potential is there,Gerrard, if he remains fit,is as good as any midfielder out there and Adams proved what he can do last year.Add to them the ever improving Lucas,Merieles (if he stays) aqualani (if he stays) and young Spearing then I think we are well equipped in midfield. If you take chelseas aging squad (esp now essien is likely to be out for start of season) and a Man Utd midfield who nobody can work out got them to the title,Man Citys unbalanced egos and Arsenal's.....? well who knows what their midfield will be next year then give me ours anyday.
Man United have proved you don't need massive names to win titles. They've also proved over the years that you don't need a squad of super-stars.They also have proved that you don't need 25 world class players to win the title. They won 4 of the last five titles with no world class players. So the earlier posters attempt at a debate is pure nonsense.
You would take those 3 over any midfield in the premiership ?? I've heard it all now. Lets say the three midfielders you named Henderson, Adams and Downing then look at three simimlar players at other clubs. Chelsea - Essien, Lampard & Ramires ( or mikel ) Arsenal - Nasri, Fabregas, Wilshere. United - Nani, Giggs and Anderson. Citeh - Yaya, Silva and Barry. Your entitled to your opinion but to state you would rather have these 3 , Henderson, Adam and Downing., rather than any of the above is very optimistic ( in regards to how good you perseve these players as being ). I do agree they will be good signings for you though
Not sure about Man Utd have no World Class players (Ronaldo was World Class while the likes the Vidic, Van De Sar and Rooney are/were up there) but I agree without your point. It's about getting players who play well together as a unit, not signing players just because they are "super stars".
sorry but where did i mention downing? and you seemed to have missed the little matter of Gerrard, now put him in in place of Downing (who we dont even own yet and might never do) and it looks a completely different picture. Then look at your 3's Lampard (getting olderand slower..if thats possible.Essien (injured) ramierez(your having a laugh) Wilshere(good player) Nasri (sure he will be there ) Fabregas (see Nasri) Nani (midfielder?) Anderson (see ramierez) Giggs (can he keep going..no scholes to fill in now) Maybe you have a point with city's 3 but how many times last season did they really gel amongst all the bitching and backstabbing) So yes on paper city and arsenal have better midfields( but nasri and fabrigas look like they will go)but I will take ours and see what happens .as you say its all a matter of opinions (Oh and dont forget the dalglish factor)
You didn't, it's just the post before was talking about Downing, Adam and Henderson then your first line read ' I would take those 3 over any midfield in te Premiership' -so I read that as Downing ? I may have misread it ? In regards to injury though - Gerrard is also injurred quite alot recently. I only incuded Nani and I thought you were including Downing so I was try to find similar player / positions.
yeah i can see where it got confusing and yes Gerrard is often injured but thats because he was always being rushed back too soon. Now after a long lay off and time to get his body right then he is a very big X factor in our midfield. The point I was trying to make was that come the big kick off i think Liverpools midfield will be as strong as anyones with or without Downing (I'd prefer N'zogbia anyway or Mata).I think Chelsea need new blood as do United,Arsenal could be in disarray if they loose their big 2 and city keep signing big money signings and they dont always gel, like Fletcher for utd season before last an unsung hero i am sure you will agree,Lucas will be the same for us..no ego just button down and get on with it.Chelsea at their best had Makalale,Arsenal had Viera (and the other french guy whose name i cant remember)Utd had Keane players who do the dirty bits that help flair players do what they do best.Liverpool, for me,have that mix at the moment.
