oh and before i forget i'd not have started gerrard at all. he is at best a 20 min man at end just like lampard was.
"Mingolet Jonhson Skertl Lovern Moreno Can Gerrard Allen Henderson Sterling coutinho" Is probably how we should have started, we were the away side and it was the FA cup, Villa went for broke and owned us. We were like wet paper the way Brod set us up, they ran through us, literally, steamrollered us flat. We are too rigid and have no ability to react to the fluid changes the opposition can make. For example players having the freedom to drop deep when needed, especially on hte left where Villa overran us, no one tracked Delph when he ran down that side outnumbering us, at times, many times in that game, there were 4 or 5 villa players interchanging and overlapping and only 3 of ours. We also cannto play a high line with Lovren and Skrtel and no proper DM as we did in the second half. Skrtel could get nowhere near Benteke and the service was never even remotely cut out, especially down that left side channel. tactical naievity.
Changing tactics and formations 4 times in a game is ridiculous. Villa over ran you in midfield with their superior energy and you never had control of the game as a result. He'd resorted to long ball tactics by the end, and was bypassing the midfield all together.
He should never have got any playing time from the minute he refused to sign a new contract, he won't be here next season and whenever he has got a game this season he hasn't been arsed. Borini on the other hand could have moved but said he wanted another chance to prove himself, he had the perfect opportunity yesterday, if nothing else he'd have ran the Villa defence ragged as opposed to bringing Balotelli on which slowed us down when we needed to up the tempo.
It's another high pressure game in which we were expected to win, but lost. Can't think of any other high pressure games that we've won other than Man City.
We were like a bad cricket captain repositioning his slip catchers to everywhere the ball has just gone.
