Suicidal in terms of defending a probable aerial threat from set-pieces

Have we got another manager who cant think beyond one formation or system, to face any known threat, ie Palaces wingers or Stokes bombadiers, because if we have, we are goosed.

I get your point Stu, but we do need to try at the very least to work out how to beat the opposition, or are you happy enough with the current tactics deployed, because I am not. One or two shirkers in the side yes, but effort is only half the story imo.

have all the tactics you want but at the end of the day if there is no spunk in the side we are ****ed ,it all revolves around fight and spirit ,its a bit late in the day to try and talk tactics imo, monkeys will learn things ,true enough ,not quickly , but god they can be strong as **** if provoked.

By the same token Stu you can have all the spunk and guile in the world, if you don't set up right to deal with opponents strengths and try to exploit their weakness you're still going to get beat. Bit of both would be nice

I'd like to see us try a 442 but can't see it happening I'd imagine we'll have Defoe, Wickham and Fletcher starting up front again, anyway I'd go for:
    ---------------Pantilimon
    ---Jones - O'Shea - Vagina - PVA
    Johnson - Cats - Rodwell - Buckley
    -------------Defoe - Wickham

It's not a good side and if we're being honest the side Stoke will put out will be stronger so we'll do well to get a point and very well if we can get all 3.

I'm not sure about starting Watmore but I'd definitely like to see him on the bench with the intention of giving him at least half an hour against tiring legs.

Is this the time to gamble, I would rather stick with experience for this one, but I think we will lose anyway so a case can be made for change, but that would leave us without any alternative should it backfire, its a real dilemma this one. I think I would prefer changes to be introduced in our next home game if it looks like its going pear shaped, even after 15 minutes if we start as flat as pancakes.

I wouldn't argue about him being **** mate as he does lack quality at this level but what he is, is fast, direct and capable of tracking back so on a bad day he's still dependable defensively and on a good day he can cause opposition real problems I wouldn't right him off to have a decent impact given the chance over the last few games. The problem with Watmore is that he is totally unproven at anywhere near premier league level so for me it's a lot safer bet to give him his chance from the bench but maybe I'm just being a bit overly cautious

It's a hard one pal but I think its the time to gamble. We need someone to give us a spark and I think the kid will gives us that.

Proven players like Fletcher....what seven goals in two seasons....Graham no goals in three years and were worried about giving Watmore a chance....jeez....get the lad on the pitch. I want to have the problem of adjusting my tv as a Sunderland player has pace up front....

I don't think that anyone has suggested that either of those two start against Stoke mate, I was under the impression that Watmore was more of a wide man rather than a forward, I could be wrong like just what I've read others saying about him.

He's can play both mate. Not a natural finisher though I must stress. We can't play as narrow as we have every game since Dick came in. When we decide to go for a bit more width than AJ and Watmore are perfect to each side of a front three. With Jones and PVA behind them we'd actually have the pace and skill to stretch opponents. Buckley to provide cover as I think Watmore has way way way more to his game than hit and run buckley.

You should watch some u21 highlights and judge for yourself on the lad.
