Sounded like how we were at the start of the season, couldnt create and struggled in final 3rd. Also too much route 1 but we looked good when we gpt the ball down passing to feet. And sounded like we really lacked width. A 442 would have covered that issue. DC usually changes things early when things aint working. I was surprised he only made 1 sub today.
Over the whole season we've drawn too many games like this one. In fact we only needed to win one of them. Today would have done nicely. Barnet beat Dover 3-0 in the same fixture.
at the same time, barnet drew 1-1 with kiddy who we beat 3-0 in the same fixture. agree we have drawn too many. we drew at home against dover conceding a late goal just like today against them. how about 2-0 up away at chester and ended 2-2. here are all our draws.... Rovers 0 Grimsby 0 FGR 1 Rovers 1 ***** should have gone 2-0 up before we threw it away Eastleigh 1 Rovers 1 Rovers 1 Dover 1 ***** conceded a late goal in injury time Aldershot 2 Rovers 2 ***** was 2-1 up but gave away a late(ish) goal Alfreton 0 Rovers 0 ***** huffed and puffed, should have won that. Alfreton will be relegted. Rovers 1 Kidderminster 1 Chester 2 Rovers 2 ***** was winning 2-0 but threw it away Wrexham 0 Rovers 0 ***** Alex Wall hit the bar (McChrystal was in goal) Welling 0 Rovers 0 ***** huffed and puffed, should have won that. Welling only just survived relegation. Rovers 1 Torquay 1 Woking 0 Rovers 0 ***** had 2 goals disallowed which replays showed was wrong decisions Dartford 2 Rovers 2 ***** took the lead twice and threw it away. Dartford have been relegated Halifax 2 Rovers 2 ***** came back from 2-0 down and should have won it in the end. Mildenhall made a massive error. Maccs o Rovers 0 Dover 1 Rovers 1 ***** conceded a late goal again now if we are honest, looking at these draws, at least 7 of these games we should have won without doubt. either a lack of killer instinct in front of goal when should be killing games off and then switching off late in games giving away goals and just some bad officials like at Woking, these 7 games has costed us 14 points. should have been champs ages ago. too many draws because a lack of goals and some individual errors has cocked us up.
I'm not complaining. We could have had a season like Torquay and to be honest after last season I wouldn't have been surprised if we had. The fact is, we're still very much in it and all with a virtually new team. DC's a young manager who's still learning, but he's definitely exceeded expectations and I'm still confident he'll steer us through no matter whether it's as champions or through the playoffs. When he does, it will be a hell of an achievement. We need to see a performance against Alfreton because it's either the game that gets us over the line or it's the game that gives us momentum for the playoffs.
Spot on. Recent form for the play off contenders.... Grimsby... 1 point in last 2 games. Eastleigh.. 4 wins in a row, 5 wins from last 6. FGR.......... 3 wins in a row, 4 wins from last 5. Scored 11 goals in last 3 games. Maccs....... Won their 1st game yesterday in 7 games. Stopped the rot! Rovers..... Not lost in 7, drew 3 of them and won the other 4. Grimsby look like heads have dropped since fell off the title pace. Or have they rested players knowing full well they are in the play offs? Eastleigh and FGR both look like hitting a purple patch just at the right time and have real momentum with them. Maccs in awful form but still have a chance. Did yesterdays win revive them just when they needed it? Then us. If we miss out on top spot, no matter how we been over the season, the million pound question is, how will we react to missing out on top spot?
Gateshead have only lost two of their last six away games. Barnet have lost two of their last six home games. It's a tough one to call... So if/ when we beat Alfreton it should be very interesting...
When we have been in the top spot we haven't been clear at the top and then lost it through loosing games. I believe that if we fail to get automatic promotion the desire to get back to league 2 will be a greater incentive than missing out on the top spot would have a negative affect. FGR look like being our opponents if we have to go through the lottery of the playoffs and we will need Rovers to be defensively sound against them. Whether it would be Eastleigh or Grimsby and looking on Grimsby forum last week their supporters are not confident that they will do well in their playoff matches. If that happens we owe Eastleigh for the defeat they inflicted on us at home. If that happens and we play them in the final I hope that the referee will clamp down quickly on their timewasting and the serious injury syndrome. Our ex player Pell seemed to find a way to disrupt the flow of the game by falling down for long periods of time without the ref either telling him to get up or to get off the pitch for treatment. I am still convinced that we will be in league 2 next season.
Remember last season after we were relegated, the city fans were all over the Mansfield player who scored the goal that relegated us like a rash. They raised money and Scott murray awarded a bottle of bubbly to the player. They made him like a god! Fair enough, that was their banter. Well, Barnet seem to think the Dover player who scored against us deserves similar treatment... http://www.onlybarnet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9297
A bit early to start crowing just yet, afterall there is another ninety minutes of football to be played { anyone remember the behaviour of some of our boys at the Chairboys ground last year !} and we all know how things can change on the last day. The Bees are definately now in the box seats but it isn't over until she starts loosening up that larynx.
Highlights of the Dover game. Looks like a very poor game. No real decent chances apart from a long throw in the 1st half that fell to Taylor who miss hit a very close shot. And a chance for them in the 2nd half a free kick and a glancing header just gone wide. But looked a poor game and the goal we conceded was embarrassing defending and keeping. I seen someone say on the other forum that looks like a foul on Puddy but I think it would have been harsh to disallow the goal.
Shortened version of the highlights which show a couple of chances that wasnt shown in the above clip...
Not a foul on Puddy if you ask me. He made a hash of it, but onwards we go, and hopefully 3 points and a Barnet slip up
Hopefully some of these Gateshead youngsters will be playing to try and earn themselves a contract. There is ninety minutes of football to play yet and its not all over till the fat lady sings and she hasn't even cleared her throat yet. We are GASHEADS surely you didn't expect an easy ride did you, keep the faith in the team and league football will be ours next season
If they really are playing seven youngsters they'll get stuffed. All we can do is win well and go into the playoffs on a high. The Chairboys could drop out of the automatic promotion places tomorrow. It's a big game between Bury and Southend...
