wimbledon have now joined in to take on the services of adam birchall! if we're no to sign him i'd rather wimbledon did...though it does make you wonder?...who would have done the best deal; wimbledon with us for kedwell or wimbledon with dover? interesting one for sure! i just feel wimbledon made alot of money on kedwell and would get a better player in birchall for less! though i really do hope kedwell does the business for us...if not both kedwell & birchall...MR SCALLY
My take on this, is that I was surprised that Birchall would want the move to Swindon, no disrespect to Swindon. I just for some reason felt that Birchall wanted a local move (don't know why!), therefore if that was the case the AFC Wimbledon bid might suit him more: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11750_7030796,00.html Having said all that, I still see no reason why we can not put a further bid in for Birchall.
brb just don't think we have £75,000 if correct! if we do, then would you put it all on one player, when we need a winger/keeper and maybe two strikers as well? also is this dover's chairman making things public, in the wish that bids might increase!
Think is all because of their chairman being a child. If he was sensible he would sit down with Mr. Scally and agree a fee. Think we would pay more than 75 grand to be honest if that's what it took. So Dover are short changing themselves because they don't want to sell to us. Maybe we will pull this one off, who knows, we did it with Lee and Whelpdale! One minute they had regected our offer and accepted others and the next they signed three year deals!
Don't really think we should involve ourselves in this anyway. We've spent plenty and a further £75K is not an option. Probably would do better looking at two or three free agents instead. People can make all the excuses they like but Birchall failed at football league level.
I've no idea on our financial situation, I was surprised we made the signings that we did. Dover were originally reported to have valued 250k on Birchall, which is absolutely laughable, so why do they get so upset when someone offers something more realistically near the true value. However, if our Chairman did offer 20k, I don't really see the Dover Chairman's problem, did Newport not offer the same figure? Difference being for Birchall we are a local move, also what is wrong in testing the water for a low priced bid, that's business. All I say is if we have got the finances, both Chairman are businessman and should not be letting these differences cloud their judgement. Personally if we have got the finances go in with another offer, if we haven't then 20k was our final offer! I've just don't want us looking back at the end of the season and saying WHAT IF! Would I pay 75k for Birchall, no more than I would have paid the reported 125k (wasn't it?) for Kedwell. This deal is not finished yet but it maybe by tomorrow (Monday), so I'd say pick up the phone now.
It would be a mistake for Birchall to go to the Dons, because they've lost 2 of their top players and look nailed on to go back where they came from, then he would be back in non-league
