I get what you're saying but personally I couldn't give a **** about providing players for the England and Scotland national teams. I'd have a team full of Italians at Leeds if it meant we were successful. The top teams in the PL don't give a toss about the England national team so why should we? We've got enough to worry about.
Agreed Essex, the difference with Bates and Ridsdale was one hated the club and IMO was trying to **** us up and someone who loved the club and went with his heart rather than his buisness head and ****ed us up. I mean even you or I wouldn't mortgage the club over so many years on a gamble that we'd be in the Champs league. We'll have to wait till the next set of accounts come in to see if Cellino is going in the right direction.
Blackpool got just a fine for the same thing earlier in the season so its a tough one to call Shaks and like you say theres one rule for the others and one rule for us both
British players are the most expensive in the world. So mediocre kids from top clubs attract a few million quid price tags. Ross £8m, Rhodes £8m so older average never made it into the prem players attract £3, 4 and £5m price tags. Our better foreign players would cost those sorts of numbers if they were British, but we got them for a song . Still in debt though anyway apparently??
And that's the difference I see. I want to see the England team do well, I want to see a flood of British Talent swell through the ranks of the British leagues. I couldn't care about seeing Del ****to or what ever at Chelsea or Citeh and their hot new young Italian manager. I want to see a British manager promoting British talent.
I don't think it would make the slightest bit of difference to the England team. Personally I think the problem lies with British society as a whole. Too pampered from a young age. You see other national teams from poorer countries like Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Croatia etc and they've got that hunger and desire instilled into them, they're actually proud to represent their country, and nine times out of ten they play England off the park. No amount of flooding the English leagues with English talent would change that English mentality
Agree in part. I don't think the wages that English kids can demand is helping them. Sterling being offered £100k a week and he's only 20 and Rooney making a million a month off the Scum on basic wages. You wonder how many kids go in to football just wanting the big pay check. You've also got to think how many kids are watching MOTD on a Saturday night and seeing Chelsea, Arsenal, Citeh being overloaded for foreign talent and thinking I'm not going to get in to the top prem clubs so why bother. Yes there are the Sterlings, Bales who are doing it but they're becoming the exception to the rule these days. However I do think the role models need to change in Football. There are too many idiots in the game crashing Mercedes or BMWs.
Venables .... fcuking crook ... came to Leeds with a massive payout clause written into his contract ... then did his best to try and get fired by forcing Dacourt out and replacing him with none other than Jacob Burns ... was happy to leave in February with a £2m golden handshake "negotiated" by Pathetic Pete so he could go back to Spain and pump the money into his villa development project ... as for best England manager, fcuking laughable ... at home in a tournament he didn't need to qualify for, with a team that picked itself ... Seaman, Adams, Gascoine (in the form of his life), Shearer ... what a spine, and quality players around them, yet Venables still could not win the tournament ... useless spiv Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I still weep at the day Venables came in. He managed to get a top 5 team to 15 in less than 12 months and don't forget who he brought with him Barmby, Okon and Lucic, Raul Bravo and dropping Martyn for Robinson what a joke. If I was Martyn I wouldn't want to fly over to Australia two minuets after coming back from Korea and Japan
How? Bates had Leeds turning over a profit in his last 3 seasons in charge - its only since he left that your finances have gone to pot. You went from making £700k in Bates' last season to losing over £20M under GFH/Massivego - how is that Bates fault?
Thoughts & Questions for the day! How do you buy or sell a house in Southampton? Are Estate Agents only available outside of football forum hours? Would you rather Cellino or Randy Lerner? If the FA had successfully blocked Cellino, Lerner had a deal in place to buy Leeds subject to selling Villa. Personally, I think he would be just as bad (if a little more stable). I will use Crowe as an example - someone like him, a real Leeds fan who may not be the richest (although that would help) is exactly what we need. Part of our malaise is our own fans - the negativity is tangible at Elland Road sometimes (even if it is silence) because I think we have had the stuffing knocked out of us. Imagine trying to perform in front of 20k + people who feel negative, the fear of making a mistake can turn a Jimmy Kebe into a Frank Strandli and I honestly believe that. A proper owner with vision and connection to the fans would garner support and hope. If said owner was honest and said, look we may have to sell the odd Sam Byram or Lewis Cook if it is for silly money but every penny will be re-invested in other talent (ala Norwich, Southampton, Swansea etc) fans would accept that. We can't afford to buy the ground back unless we get back to the Premier League but, if we get promoted that will be the number one priority not spending a fortune on any old "Carlos Kickaball" as Sir Alan once called them - I think fans would accept that too. If they came in and said we are going to focus on youth and it may take 3 years but there is a genuine plan and the management team will get that time providing we are making real progress, I think the fans will accept that. A cohesive positive Leeds United fan base and a progressing club will be a force no question and it really is possible - next owner is crucial for me.
