His citizens paid for the sanction Ian Smith declared Rhodesia independent from Britain (UDI), there was sanctions, ordinary citizens
suffered...war war and settlement. Rhodesia now Zimbabwe has never known peace.

As I said, the middle east has a violent past, but you are forgetting Europe? WWI WWII, france spain germany and the rest have been at each others throats since time began with only the last 60 years being somewhat peaceful.

Iraq has been intermittently invaded and bombed for 100 years. Iran made great steps in 1953 when they elected a man who was a real chance for peace in the region. What did the US\UK do, they carried out a coup, replaced him with a NAzi sympathiser lunatic dictator.

Now, how woud iran be today if they had not carried out that regime change? Different? a real possibility.
