Boro were strong favorites but then they let Strachan sign a load of poor quality Scottish players who badly let them down
As said from they very beginning Nicky Maynard will not sign for any championship club,I am fully aware that the man will only go to the prem IF the right deal is in place for him. He does not want to go to any other championship club,NM believes he has as good a chance here to hit the top flight,Our benifactor is one of the uks richest people Steve Lansdown want premiership football in Bristol. The new stadium will be started soon take a look at this boys top stadium. http://www.bristolcitynewstadium.com/ I think NM will sign his contract with a escape clause if we do not produce this season.
Jesus - It's like a broken record isn't it - Look if Maynard is so ****ing important to you, take him now **** off with him and stop posting the same regurgitated **** on our board
Fantastic new ground, bet you cannot wait to move in? When will it be completed and ready to play in? The below are genuine questions and not a pop! 1. Why do you think that Keith Millen can get you promoted. 2. Who have you bought this transfer window. 3. Who are you going to buy 4. Who will be your top player if Maynard does leaves 5. What do you consider to be the highest position you could achieve in the championship this season with your current set up? Good luck for next season
I'm always a bit cynical about club's boast about nice, shiny pictures of new grounds. I personally don't think they are worth much until they are made from steel and concrete. Does anyone remember Barry Peirpoint's nice picture of a ground? It was way better than the King Power Stadium. It looked nicer and had a bigger capacity too. Also, we had a nice picture of a ground near Scudamore Road and one a bit earlier near Beaumont Leys didn't we? But...I have to say I prefer the King Power Stadium. Not only does it include a full-scale pitch which can be used to play football on, but it has 32000 real seats in which we can sit (or stand in front of) and watch Leicester City play. This to me seems a huge upgrade on a nice picture. Although obviously FIFA don't agree with me. If the World Cup had come to England (which it was never going to, was it?) they had, in fact, awarded games to two clubs with nice pictures of stadia. It doesn't look like Plymouth or Forest will come any closer to having their pictures rendered in concrete than we currently play at a 40000 stadium in Beaumont Leys. But I'm sure Bristol City is in some way different...
You're so right though, in some ways we really didn't deserve the World Cup bid. The choices of stadium and the criteria for choosing them were pretty disgraceful tbh. I mean don't get me wrong, we still had the best bid, but it was still a **** bid.
Fantastic new ground, bet you cannot wait to move in? When will it be completed and ready to play in? (2013) The below are genuine questions and not a pop! 1. Why do you think that Keith Millen can get you promoted [BIG SEASON FOR KM] 2. Who have you bought this transfer windowVERY GOOD MIDFIELDER IN KILKENNY THE MISSING LINK IN MIDFIELD THE PLAYMAKER] [/B] 3. Who are you going to buy.[PLAYERS THAT IMPROVE THE SQUAD,THE MANAGEMENT TEAM WILL DEAL WITH THIS] 4. Who will be your top player if Maynard does leaves.MAYNARD IS ONE OF FOUR OR FIVE PLAYERS THAT WOULD WALK INTO MOST CHAMPIONSHIP SIDES] 5. What do you consider to be the highest position you could achieve in the championship this season with your current set up? [PLAYOFFS] We had a terrible season last with coppell walking and milly picking up the pieces remember we did not win a game for ten in a row,we picked up, and a number of times sat at the top of the form table. You actually did not finish with a great number of points above us considering our start. This year we will be a different proposition, believe me.We have one of the best front lines in the division with maynard, pitman, stead, adomah all will score plenty. One thing for sure the championship this year is wide open for about twelve teams, and yes you and us in my opinion are in the twelve. Good luck for next season
1 - Personally if KM manages to get us promoted this year he deserves a knighthood. 2 - We've 'bought' Ryan Taylor, Yannick Bolasie and Neil Kilkenny. All free transfers or minimal fees, first two meant to be highly rated young players. 3 - We still need to buy a LB, RB and CB to have a really good chance of top 6 IMO. Rumours are two premier loan players and one permanent transfer. From talking to one of our players we were in advanced talks with an england international CM a couple of weeks back, believed to be Hargreaves and were close to sealing the deal but that doesn't seem to have gone any further since then. 4 - I don't believe Maynard is actually our top player, Pitman is a better goal scorer whereas Maynard scores better goals if that makes sense? He is a wonderful player to watch though as he can score from anywhere. I think Stead, Pitman, Adomah and Cisse will be extremely important next year. 5 - I think we have a genuine shot at top 6 this year if we get off to a good start unlike last year. At least that is what we should be aiming for. Good luck too mate!
Jambo thanks for your considered and honest reply Some of your fans have stated that your owner is loaded, I believe your capture of David James last season was a suprise to many and most expected your man to follow up with more big name signings to prepare to chase that dream we all have, but if the owners have hard cash then I would have expected a bigger name in to manage and also better signings? The fact that you state free transfers or minimal fees wouldn't fill me with confidence considering your owners position? How long has he owned the club? Has he made a statement of intent? honestly apart from the guys you have metioned in the threads I couldn't name one of your squad and have no clue as to where your manager has come from, again this is not a pop, but with the seriously rich owners your guys seem to think you have, then ambition and investment does not seem to follow? i am sure Maynard is sitting at home now thinking this all through and these will be questions he will put to your board before he signs anew contract? After all if you were in his position wouldn't you do the same?
Martin George, the chairman in the 90s who did some good things such as employ Brian Little and Martin O'Neill, his family own Kelloggs! This is not just a huge company in Britain but in the US too. He must be loaded! However, he went on the record in the 90s saying, 'I don't think it is my business to be pumping my family's fortune into Leicester City Football Club.' I always thought it was a shame he thought this, because very, very few of the fans were getting in for free and many were most certainly taking money out of their family budget, undoubtedly much smaller than Mr. Georges, to attend matches. Two points spring to mind. The first is, the Bristol City chairman can be as rich as anything but if he doesn't put his hand in his pocket and finance the club then what benefit is it? Proportionally, most fans spend a greater percentage of their net worth on their clubs than most owners, regardless of whether they are local boys or not! From a distance at least, it looks like the fans who are financing Bristol City, not the chairman. The second point follows the first. Our owners are not local boys. Far from it in fact. (Although Top claims to be a City fan from his time at Cambridge Uni) But...they have put more of their hard earned cash into Leicester City than any of our previous owners and board members ... PUT TOGETHER!!! It is also money from their company, King Power, rather than money they are borrowing. I don't know some of the money is counted as a loan on the club to King Power but not all of it is because they have sponsored the ground and the shirt. This counts as earnings, not loans. How many years have Leicester fans bemoaned owners not prepared to put their hands into their own pockets? The answer to this is...every year but the last two. So most Leicester fans understand the predicament of Bristol City only too well. There...but for the grace of the Raksriaksorns...went we.
Our owner genuinely is obscenely wealthy, worth somewhere between £500m-750m depending on how much of Hargreaves Landsdown Ltd he still owns. To be fair to Steve Landsdown he has done a massive amount for the club, has owned us since 2002 and has led to us being settled in the Championship after years of lower league football. The impression I get is he feels that the new stadium is going to be the catalyst for promotion to the PL. So I think he's sitting back and doing enough to keep us competitive until 2013 when the new ground opens when I think he'll go all out for promotion. He's said frequently he wants to set us up as a self sufficient club be that in the championship or premier league but has been known to pay decent money when he believes it to be worth it. Coppell spent LOADS on wages for useless players last year and since January KM has been saying that until the squad is trimmed there is not going to be a lot of money spent. Worst example - Nicky Hunt played about 6 times last year and is on £15kpw. He's also providing £40-50m of the money that will be used to build our new ground so I can't really complain about lack of investment. As for our manager, he has come through the ranks, was assistant manager for the last 8 or so years and Landsdown felt that he deserved a chance. Especially after how bad appointing a 'proven' manager went in Coppell. Honest assessment so far is that I think Millen has the potential to be an extremely good manager, will be interesting to see how he does this year as his first season with 'his' team. The news from our team is that Maynard wants PL football, if no PL teams make an offer then he will sign at the end of the transfer window as he wants to thank the club for showing support when he was out injured for a long time. I think his new contract offered has a release clause specifically for PL teams to activate, with the intention of picking up a bumper wage until Janurary when he will leave after (hopefully) scoring a shed load of goals. TBH if I was in his position i'd have buggered off as soon as I heard the wages on offer! But thankfully he doesn't appear to think the same way!
He may think that way. No one has heard anything concrete that Maynard wants to stay or go. At the minute Bristol are the only thing stopping that. I think there will be a very big offer for Maynard going in this week and i think it will probaly be the same deal we paid for Matt Mills or maybe slightly better as in more up front and less in add ons
As a Leicester fan since as far back as I remeber (1981 I think) I have never been so exited about the start of a season, but also feeling a little bit uncomfortable about the money that is being spent at the moment, I must admit I do not know thw exact set up of the owners and companies that are involved in the ownership of our club. From the outside and your post above, it sounds like your owners are down to earth and sensible, they will be patient and build the club from the bottom. I really hope that are owners have the same belief and commitment, no matter what happens in the next 3-4 seasons. I have posted with a question to our fans asking where they see us in 5 years, I would ask the same question to you? The big question for me is why if so wealthy does your owner not spend sooner on quality signings and attempt to get to the promised land quicker? You are a big city and no doubt with a premier league place could achieve home crowds of 40k+, I think most fox fans would agree. Also in a post I have questioned our imput into Youth as we are coming into an era where all clubs need to invest heavily in youth with the regulations FIFA/UEFA ar e about to implement. Where do you see your youth academy in the top 20 in the country?
... well Maynard or no Maynard, we move on, just one of the targets we were after, think it my be a touch of 'ebay-itus'.. keep bidding until you've won it, but then you stop and look and realise it's just not worth what you paid for it, you got caught up in the moment.....think Maynard should stay at Bristol City, 4.5 mill rejected????... as arro says Cole is only going for that sort of money, and with him having had the injury I think we should leave well alone and let him prove his fitness this year with Bristol City, and hopefully the year after that we wouldn't want him anyway, or pick him up on a free, as he walks at the end of his contract...
I think some supporters should get out of the mind set.."its all going to wrong and we will go broke"...you would think the money we are spending is dead money....we are INVESTING in the right type of player, right age, right ability.....trust sven the man might just know what he is doing...his first permanent signing he paid money for is now worth what? compared to how much he paid for him....? with all due respect to some views on here...why are people who have tuppence ha'penny trying to second guess our multi millionaire owners....im sure they are grateful for your concern but can just about manage this part of their empire...im sick of us scratching about and trying to do things on the cheap....waiting to somehow fluke our way back up to the big time in the long run...in the long run, i will be 6 foot under ...there is only now, there is only this chance...let bristol or cov or forests boards stay timid...count the pennys and die the death of a thousand cuts...faint hearts step aside..get on board, enjoy the ride, and never say we didn't have a go...the bristol fan,the saints fan ..the forest fan..ect ,ect...they are ALL sick with envy...when they knock and sneer...they protest too much..........and WE all know it............
Why do people think it will all go wrong??? Hasn't yet at Chelsea or even on a smaller scale at Fulham - owned by people that haven't always been their respective clubs' fans from birth. To me, that Thais see us as having big potential, one they can market and as we know there is more to this investment than just Top and Vichai - I genuinely think that Thaksin and Newin Chidchob - Billionaires - are in on this too. I have heard mutterings that they want to make a one big sporting club in Leicester, with the Tigers and Leicester Riders coming under the sporting umbrella too along with the Cricket Club, so maybe things can only get better. Also I'm not worried as I'd rather be owned by people from The Far East - one of the fastest growing economies - than the Yanks. Let's just enjoy the ride and with them getting naming rights of the Stadium and setting up academies, they're here for the long term.
