Liverpool youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg playing for loan club Brighton on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off during the Seagulls’ goalless draw with Huddersfield Town, and scans have shown a break to his right leg, just above the ankle.

Teixeira will now return to Liverpool for treatment. He leaves Brighton having made 32 appearances for the Championship side, scoring six goals.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: “Our thoughts are with Joao, as this is a real blow to him after such a good season for the club. We all wish him a speedy recovery and return to action.

“He’s been an important player for the club this season, both before and after I came to the club, and I would like to thank him for his efforts during his time on loan here, and also Liverpool for allowing him to come.”

Teixeira has made one senior appearance for the Reds, in a league game with Fulham last season, and recently expressed his desire to force his way back into Brendan Rodgers’ plans next season.

I feel so gutted for Texeira. He's been having a really good season. A long term injury has really delayed his senior career for us and this summer finally looked like his big opportunity to stake a claim at Liverpool. But I fear a long term injury now could be it for Texeira. I hope I'm wrong but I fear this may be the injury the ends his career hopes at the highest level of football.

Shame he's been really good for Brighton recently. He started the season very well then drifted off a bit but has picked up recently in a Brighton team that are really struggling.

Don't think he's ready for our first team yet, at the moment he's top level Championship player with potential. This could set him back a bit though

Think that'll be that for him with us now after we've seen his leg right

At 22 will he ever be good enough for first team if we're loaning him out instead of using him as a sub.

  8. Hasn't he been delayed by a couple of previous serious injuries...?

This is a pity he's one of those players that most fans thought may have the ability to get in the first team next season. He's young enough to recover though.

MAssive shame because I think he could have been close to the first team squad next season.

Wish him a speedy recovery - talented player.

A break is much less of a problem than torn ligaments.

He seems to be very unlucky with his injuries.
