It seems our much debated former manager won the Qatari league the other day.
Some nice footage of him and Chico from the game that sealed it and the celebration afterwards
in this clip (with English commentators).

He looked so miserable in the last couple of months here, that I almost didn't recognize him with a smile on his face.

<laugh> This will go down like a lead balloon, but it may not last long.

A certain mod will remove it, He has form when it comes to removing Laudrup appreciation threads.

Good to see The Great Dane with a smile on his face. Great hair style.

    He's "a loser",you know,as is evidenced by this thread. <laugh>

    "Useless",as well. <laugh>

Having to dress wounds in your back would make anyone look miserable.

Well done Michael Laudrup. That Quatari cup will surely be the most prestigious and well respected amongst his collection.

Very pleased for him. The standard of footie there was surprisingly good.

But there's some silly, churlish and frankly condescending comments here that fail to grasp the nature of overseas football, particularly in Muslim countries. Because we are Premier League doesn't entitle you to look down your nose like that. It's rather ugly actually. I've praised Monk here and he deserves it but have to say I do wish our players attacked with the crispness of that team. Sorry Garry - you've won me over but it has to be said.

I have to say though, Laudrup was great for us but now he's gone so for ****'s sake let's move on! Anyone who says he was useless for us is either a ****ing clown or trying to get a rise out of other posters, maybe both. On the other hand anyone who says we were doing OK at the time of his departure needs a reality check.

I can't speak for anyone else but I think most fans see it that way.

It's nice to see our ex players and managers winning things.
Not the greatest league in the world but the top three clubs would do reasonably well in the Europa League.

You know that do you? How can anyone say our u21s would have won that? Did you watch that League? How many games and teams did you watch? It's ridiculous, but typical of the drivel some of our fans spout. The League Cup isn't prestigious either but I'm glad we won it. Like I said, some churlish comments here.

Vetch, your post just about sums you up perfectly. I pity you.

A league win is a league win so all credit due.

Yep, he can only play what he's got and he won with it. <applause>

They were odds on favourites to win the league at the begining of the season so its nice to see him matching expectations. Its also nice to see he's managed to keep both his hands attached to his wrists.

I wonder what his second season will bring, he gets bored so easily.

Can I ask then as you know so much about this league. What players are out there who have played in the major leagues. Just curious like.

You don't have to have seen any of the games or be a genius to know that the Quatari league is not one of the strongest in the world by a long way.

Difficult to say what standard the teams play at compared to other leagues but they won within their parameters. Pace is the big difference - from what I've seen they'd probably be mid Championship. So well done.
The Qatari national team were on a par with Wales until two or three years ago so they must have had reasonable players.

He inherited a title winning side, was expected to win the league, won the league. Can't really ask for more from him so credit is due there. I don't pay attention to the league so don't really care about the quality. Winning any league is tough though, from Sunday league to Premier League. The Qatari league probably is weaker than the top European leagues, but it's the whole league that is weaker from top to bottom. You take 20 average footballers and try to win the league against other teams of average footballers, it's hard. Just as taking 20 fantastic footballers and trying to win the league against other teams of fantastic footballers is hard. Not saying the Qatari league is "average", I'm just stressing my case. The manager, in this case Laudrup, would certainly have had a strong part to play in the winning of the league title. But as it's in Qatar, I fail to care - I pay attention to Rodgers and Martinez as they're in our league, I paid attention to Sousa only because he was in the Champions League, but I don't care about Laudrup because, right now, he's in a league where whatever he does doesn't matter to me at all.

You don't need to "pity" anyone. Was there something in the post you took umbrage with? I only speak the truth, and sometimes it hurts. I don't make things up to suit my case/cause. <cheers>

"Churlish" indeed. The envy and spite, from the usual suspects, is palpable.

To be honest I don't really care what any of our former players or managers are doing, I don't support them as they don't play for my team.

If someone wants to post a thread about one I may reply or may not, on this occasion I choose to post. My opinion is well done Laudrup, and that's it really, I won't waste any more time on our former manager.
