Nothing you can say can top the facts I have posted.

    54 in 85
    38 in 122

    9 winners for Spain
    22 for England

Stop making yourself look silly with worthless sub stats.

Real Madrid have conceded more goals to "inferior" Spanish opposition than Chelea have condede to "superior" PL opposition <whistle>

imho if you had Barca and Real in the PL, you'd be looking at a far less competitive spread of titles than we see in Spain with Real and Barca

Your man never said it was more competitive at the summit, which is what we actually talking about , he said it was marginally more predictable, across the spectrum of the entire league, you helmet.

What's really funny is some flute coming out with a ridiculous statement and desperately trying to create a narrative that makes it look accurate when it's patently a crock of ****. Your posting of the work of Goddard doesn't even back up your point, but you were that eager to find something that you chucked it in there.

Ah your back after washing off the stink of failure, what? not happy being clean so here #wegoagain
    <laugh>

I think this has run it's course this topic. Keep going yourself tho.. keeps the board active.

If only you and UIR hadn't shown up, I might have been able to debate it reasonably with the much more lucid Bodanki but sadly you and your sidekick UIR were talking garbage for an hour before he showed up so I'd given up on that by then <laugh>

    Awesome thread.

I enjoy debating with Sisu, he is fun. Even if, in this instance, he is wrong :p

  9. How many different winners have there been in that time?

Five have won the PL; Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Blackburn.

Five for La Liga? Real Madrid, Barcelona, A.Madrid, Valencia and Deportivo...?

Fairly equal there but as anyone outside those five Spanish sides challenged during that time?

In the PL, Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds have all challenged off the top of my head. Forest did well one season too if I recall getting third? Norwich and Ipswich too?

I've missed a lot of the board so apologies if someone has already mentioned it.

Couple of the arguments that pro PL fans state is that other leagues are predictable, and the PL is far more competitive throughout.

    1) The PL is predictable - Chelsea and City are the only ones who should be walking the league. United, Arsenal, Liverpool are nowhere near. Outside of those teams, who else is likely to win it?

    2) Have these people seen the dross in our league? Just because the likes of QPR can compete for 80 odd mins against the league leaders isn't a sign of a good league.

In summary - the PL is entertaining in that it's full of action, ups and downs but also a lot of errors and comic value. Apart from Chelsea and Soton, no other teams are set up with any real structure. They all want to play into the media perception that British football is all about pace, thunder and blood etc etc and that's the most/only successful way of playing.

But City aren`t walking the league and United and Arsenal aren`t that far away so how is it predictable?

  12. What I want to know is why people focus on the title challenging when discussing the competitiveness or quality of different leagues.

A good league isn't based on how good or bad the top couple of teams are that are expected to challenge for the title. A good league is the competitiveness throughout said league. Majority of games in the Italian, Spanish, German, etc leagues are predictable. That is not the case in England since on any given day, anyone can beat anyone. Sure, that probably means the top sides aren't as good as in some other leagues but what would you rather have?

Take this season as an example, the Championship is a fantastic league that is extremely competitive but obviously not a patch in terms of quality when comparing to the the teams in the top leagues throughout the world.

I think a lot of people have forgotten that football is supposed to be entertainment!

Correct, every game in the Premier league can go either way, ergo the league is very competetive <ok>

Jose was asked if he thought they had enough of a lead to win the league, his answer......"no, in any other league it is impossible for someone to catch us but here it can hapen".

So who's going to win La Liga? Barca or Real? Did anyone think At Madrid would win last season?

Point I'm making - there are a few teams in every league which are expected to challenge for the title, and the others aren't close.

And also, a lot of fans judge La Liga because they see Real Madrid and Barca blow the rest away and think that reflects the quality of the smaller teams. But it's because Real and Barca are THAT good.

Going to Gez's point - football is about entertainment which is why I agree that the PL is the best for entertainment. The original point I was making was the actual quality of football in terms of tactics, defending as well as attacking etc etc. The PL this season is not a patch on when there was the likes of Fergie, Rafa, Mourinho (when he first came), Wenger's first 8 seasons.

Atletico won it last season but I can guarantee you it was a one off. This season, next season and all but one or two of the next 50 seasons will be won by Real or Barcelona.

La liga is predictable, uncompetitive and frankly boring. Its like watching 2 F1 cars in a kart race.

You say yourself, 5 clubs could compete for the PL title. That's 25% of the league. You effectively agree its more competitive, at least at the top end as realistically, 15% of La Liga can compete for the title.

The only thing that stops the La Liga giants winning every game is complacency.

There seem to be confusion in the meaning of the terms and the use of stats to support various arguments. Some people are using stats which in themselves are not up for debate but in no way should lead to the conclusions being drawn from them. Stats are facts but inference from them has been pure nonsense at times.

People have been wrongly using domination, competitiveness, quality, and even exciting/entertaining in an interchangeable way.

    Games to go:

    West Brom (A)

    Hull (A)

    QPR (H)

    Chelsea (A)

    Crystal Palace (H)

    Stoke (A)

18 possible points. Not easy games.

Who else can you see winning the title in PL other than City or Chelsea? And you're correct that I mentioned 5 clubs there are only 2 who are likely to go onto win it.

Complacency - true. But the same goes for every other big club e.g. PSG, Bayern, Juventus, Chelsea etc. They are clearly better than the others clubs but they all drop points.

I think it is possible to get all these 18 points. Although 16 is probably a more realsitic target. So I would think we should aim for at least 73 points, interestingly the same or very close to the 74 mentioned by rodgers (it seems an eternity ago now).

The away games are really tough as they all are playing for their lives. Chelsea will proably have won the title by then but they woudn't want to lose points at home to us.

I think unfortunately that if the clubs ahead of us win their winnable matches , even that tally may not be enough to get CL. We may come very close but the GD also counts against us.

    Yeah and why is that?

It's because of the way their league is structured and the massive disparity in TV revenue between what they earn and the rest, they can therefore afford to buy some of the World's best players and maintain the status quo. The difference in quality between the big 2 in Spain and the rest is driven by the massive revenue difference.

Over here post FFP we've no got 5 or 6 sides who can compete for the title realistically next season.
