But even the most optimistic Sunderland fan could not have imagined Bruce would have signed nine players by early July. It has been one of the most intense periods of buying in Premier League history â five of Sunderland's Premier League rivals are yet to make a single signing â but Bruce is determined to sustain it a little longer. He is still hopeful Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson will lower the wage demands which have so far prevented him joining former Old Trafford tea-mates John O'Shea and Wes Brown at Sunderland. Gibson will not go on United's pre-season tour of the US, staying behind instead to continue negotiations over a move. Bruce also intends to add a top- class striker. He has considered a move for Jermain Defoe but is not convinced the Tottenham striker will move north, and his preference would be to re-sign Danny Welbeck on loan from United. Welbeck is due to fly to Seattle on Friday to join United's tour, and Bruce has been told that no decision will be made on his future until Sir Alex Ferguson has assessed his development. Bruce pondered a move for Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia, although a £9 million fee and wage demands of £60,000-a-week have put him off, and the winger seems likely to replace Stewart Downing when he leaves Aston Villa for Liverpool. The Sunderland manager believes he has sent out a statement to the rest of the Premier League. "I wouldn't say I was finished but we're very pleased. We had four loan players leave, [Boudewijn] Zenden (who rejected a new contract) and the sale of Jordan Henderson, so it was important we made sure the squad's looking healthy again. It's got a good balance about it and I'm very, very pleased with what we've done." Why? Reckon he may make more than two new signings, as he will have to replace the players that will inevitably leave.
I think we are all agreed, that this iis make or break year for Bruccie, as yuo all know I am no fan of Bruce, I like him as a man, I also think he is a decent man manager, but I dont believe he is a good coach, and was doubtful of his tactics, or lack of them last season, well that season has past, and he seems to be putting together a decent side, If we keep Gyan, and maybe get better coaching, we can do realy well, as I said its Bruccies year

Wigan...Steve Bruce has stated it would take an unbelieveable offer to even consider letting Gyan go..£5 + Defoe does not fall into that category in my mind.
I think if good ole harry wants him that bad, we should say Crouch+Defoe+Hutton+£5M, then drag the whole thing out for the rest of the summer and finally tell them to get stuffed and bring in Danny boy on loan! Sorted. In all honesty we need to keep Gyan as the best is yet to come from him and my wee lad would be gutted if he went so lets not undo all the good work so far Brucie....
I really liked Hutton, we now have O'shea, Brown, Bardsley and Elmo who can play right back. I don't think we will be in for another. Krancjar would be the player I would take as part of the deal.
We must keep Gyan now we have better crossers and a stronger team all round more goals should flow, so his value will rocket this season, better to keep someone good who wants to stay, we haven't seen the best of him yet but by god we will

Gyan is worth 30m plus to us, that might not be his Market value but it's his value to Sunderland. Simply put Pav, Defoe, Crouch don't offer as many goals or assists as Gyan does. I like the idea of getting Welbeck back as he offers both an option up front and wide. We need 2 more, a left winger and a striker. My personal prefrence would be Welbeck and Krancjar but I would also be happy with Defoe and Zog. I would really rather not deal with Spurs if at all possible.
