It looks as though, according to ExpressFM, the PCFC Board are in the process of sacking Andy Awford. Gary Waddock to take charge until the end of the season. Whatever anyone thinks of his ability to manage, it is a sad end to a Pompey legend.
And yet again a manager lasts about a year in the Portsmouth job, and we condemn ourselves to yet more upheval as another manager take the job and changes everything to suit him and his style, meaning more changes on and off field. I despair at the way Pompey is run sometimes. No long term decisions are ever taken with the management staff, I seriously question whether any Pompey board has had any long-term plans in place since Alan Ball was given the job by John Deacon back in the 1980's!

There was a huge lesson which could have been learnt from them down the road, as well as the other fan funded club, Swansea. It doesn't seem as though that lesson has been learnt yet though.
And what lesson's that? Dont appoint young untested managers to job? Dont appoint club legends? Actually have managers last for more than a year? Actually have a long-term bloody plan for the club? How do we expect to get anywhere when we have no managerial stability. That's just as important financial stability to achieving success.
Okay okay, 5 lessons then............. have a footballing philosophy in place and appoint the Manager that is the best fit for that.

The club would like to place on record their sincere thanks for Andy’s efforts – his service to Pompey is immeasurable. One of his most significant contributions was when he took charge of the team in March 2014 and steered the club to safety from the threat of relegation out of the Football League. The first lesson is the most vital one and the main reason why keep ending in this situation. The reason we have no managerial stability is because the last three appointments have been shocking. Before that going back to Avram, each manager has left of their own accord, the club can hardly be blamed if Cotteril wanted to go to Forest or Appleton wanted to go to Blackburn. Awford - should never have been appointed Barker - should never have been appointed Guy - should never have been appointed Appleton - left of his own free will Cotteril - left of his own free will Grant - left of his own free will
Sad, but not unexpected news. Our board of directors are still learning the job of running a football club, I do wish they would hurry up and master it. Both Guy and Awfs were legends at PFC, and whilst probably good young coaches, are not cut out to be managers, and should not in my opinion have been appointed by the club. Richie Barker was merely an incapable, useless choice brought in by Mark Catlin, and is not a 'people person'. Not sure if Gary Waddock would be a good long term successor to Awfs. May be time to bring in someone with far more experience and knowhow, like for example Neil Warnock, Nigel Adkins, or even - dare I say it - Harry Redknapp. Each of these would be capable of securing promotion for the club. I do hope they make the right choice of new manager going forward, but based on past decisions, I very much doubt it.

PL is correct we lost 3 not due to carelessness but because better offers came in from clubs who were not in the state we were at the time - I agree with Majr that stability is critical on and off the pitch - so spinning it around we have as a club come an awful long way off the pitch in terms of a structured set up and a bank balance that is at least positive - next step has to be to engage a set of Managers that straddle the clubs Community/Youth/Reserve/First Team set up and have a joined up approach - this is where Swansea seem to have done so well with all their choices from Martinez onwards....I don't think any have been duds.
Wasn't this inevitable? The clamour from the terraces was for it to happen wasn't it. By that I mean the majority or at least a large section. Given that most other team's supporters would have put you up for automatic promotion before the start of the season I doubt there is much shock from elsewhere. I said this before on another thread, in this league you need someone with the experience to get out of it. You missed Sturrock by a whisker as he is currently employed now. He has everything you need. There are others with the same experience having said that and you do not need somebody with no previous or who has been associated with the club in a playing capacity. Sentiment is the wrong reason to appoint anyone. Out of the names on this thread so far I'd put Warnock up for it. You probably wouldn't like Colin but he'd do a job for you.
