Bobby Moore wasn't quick. There's bad slow and good slow. I'd prefer good fast but I'd take good slow. Was any of that English??
So so is OShea bad slow? Bet u weren't saying that this time last week. He cost us the game yesterday and partly v Villa but he's played well most of the season. I agree we need new CBs in the summer but people blaming him for everything is wrong and I'd be very worried if you told me he'd miss any of our games for the remainder of this season.
Mate I've been saying O'Shea's crap since he's signed, I don't think he's ever done well for us. A few good games doesn't make up for the countless own goals, penalties given away, missed tackles and red cards. Far bigger calamity than David James ever was for me. I'd be comfortable starting Vergini or Coates over him and I don't rate either of them.
I think you're wrong but it's hard to defend him after his most recent game. There's nobody in our current squad id pick ahead of him for our last few games of the season. Still think we'll sneak out of it but we deserve to go.
I wouldn't like to predict what happens from here but stay up or go down I'd be getting shot of O'Shea, regardless of the last game I think he's dreadful.
He's not the quickest but stoppers doesn't need to be fast as it's about physical and aerial dominance. It's your covering ball playing defenders who need the pace, they tidy up and need to be quick onto the ball.. Rodwell more than has enough pace for the role imo.
Our only other options are untried combinations, thats the problem. But it might be time to give a fresh CD combination a shot in our next game, win it and we are quids in, lose it and JOS has had a well earned rest and some of the flack will be diverted away from him, he could then return with a bit of dignity and would still have time to end the season in triumph by leading another great escape. The lad has never been a favourite of mine, but he is no quitter ill give him that and he has a lot of experience to draw on, which still could be a vital ingredient in the next few weeks.
Lots of people are saying rodwell should play cent half but has the lad played there before? I havent seen him play there like.
Until he broke into the first team. Tosh Farrell reckoned he one of the best he's ever brought through despite bringing through Rooney and Barkley. He believed he'd become England's best center back. He filled in at DM so was converted into a midfielder. CB is his natural position.
If there was option to keep him then I would have selected that. Has been one of our best and most consistent players all season, no use getting rid. Coates and Vergini loan expiring, Brown contract expiring, we'd have no one
Never knew that but why didn't everton or city try the lad in his right position then? Sounds abit daft to me.
Because he did so well when moved to Midfield. I don't think it's daft, looking at his attributes I think it's worth a shot.
Loads of early references to him in that position. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...the-fa-cup-1607800.html?action=gallery&ino=11 http://backpagefootball.com/jack-rodwell/4684/ This one he say's he wants to develop in Rio's mould http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/jack-rodwell-talentspotter
