Think about it, despite all these colonisations and conquests we all speak the language of the first people that got here as none of the subsequent arrivals came in big enough numbers to change that.

 

Were you to step back in time to the days of Ethelred the Unready, I think you might have trouble making yourself understood during an angle-saxon rape and pillage session.
