Err no Hornette,tend to concentrate on one club rather than fretting over others (I have WFC supporters club badges from way before you,a slip of a thing, entered the world !) Nothing resolved yet -Watford can still go up in top position*,maybe concentrate on that -but pretty sure you have said before that you dont necessarily want them in the Prem, I used to go along with that but the performances lately suggest they should get the chance .Thing is though, If you REALLY dont want them promoted,then why on earth fret over other clubs?? Cant tell whether you're saying you were actually at the match ,dont know your age.Gray certainly got away with something there,but somehow he often did - not a pleasant player. The rest though,you must have your yellow/ black/red glasses on -again. Its really irrelevant who were favourites to win the game ...but it certainly wasnt Watford ,Everton were reasonably successful at the time and WFC were regarded as the little ones.Up to the Semi Watford had done well but it was quite a struggle against Plymouth, from the lower leagues, to get to Wembley.Any supporter at Villa Park who werent biting their nails during the second half ? Sadly,the team didnt play very well in the Final ,so dont deserve your 'better team' claim...have to say Everton were hardly better though. The whole feel for that day in May seems to have been lost on you though, the general feeling I picked up from supporters was they were just so pleased to be at a Cup Final the club was actually taking part in,even though they'd been successful for a while -too many earlier years of the opposite ! Think they'd probably have wished the team played better but still a great occasion and who knows if it would ever happen again.On the other hand Everton people I encountered before the game were expecting an easy ride against upstarts (or were hiding nerves in some cases !)
I've always thought statistics were an aggregation of what happened in the past. When applied to the future they are not facts; they are what people expect will probably happen because of what went before. I find it hard to persuade folk who like stats that the data itself has no power to determine the future. Maybe it's a factor of getting older...it's harder to get off your hobby horses
Statistics get used badly by most people - especially politicians - but they only work properly with large numbers. The stats we now have are no good in predicting who will go up - any more than knowing a coin has been thrown five times in a row all producing heads would help you predict the next five throws
Don't you worry Nick, i'm hugely focused on us, but i enjoy watching football and seeing what's happening around us too. Nice to think you think I'm that young, i'll take that as a compliment, ta muchly! Sometimes I think you read far to much into what I say that isn't really there. I love the championship, who wouldn't rather be a big fish, and i can afford to go to almost every game, home and away.. A luxury we won't have if we go up, but who would turn down the excitement of promotion? Thing is, at the end of may it's exciting, but for teams like ours, keeping that excitement for a season in the prem is a dream that rarely can come true. I'd take that moment though, but would also stay in the championship for the reasons stated. Still, just had my fill at borough market and i'm ready for the game, COYH!
I wonder which of the promotion hopefuls today finds the banana skin to slip on, resulting in an outburst of throat slitting by the fans. Just hope it is not us.
And the pressure mounts. Every game is a 'must win' for the top eight teams (but for different rewards). Bournemouth will play a weakened Reading on Tuesday. I hope this results in complacency.
Sadly I very much doubt it will, more likely it will result in more goals, possibly even more red cards or penalties! Lol
There is the other side to that, although unlikely, is that there'll be a surprise result due to those Reading players wanting to prove to Steve Clarke that they deserve to start at Wembley.
I don't think it is unlikely - they will be up for it all right. I just do not think they will be good enough. I actually think their hardest game may be the last one at Charlton- everyone loves the chance to knock someone off their perch as we well know.
They had that chance against us and didn't look anywhere near good enough, I doubt they'll be any better for Bournemouth
Reading have massively under performed this season in the league and with new owners in place this season there will be some of their players with their futures up for grabs with or without the cup run. Maybe Bournemouth will gift a penalty to Reading and have a contentious red card awarded against them
yes i was there and we did not play well on the day . Our form dipped at the end of the season i think there was too many tuff games for a small squid dont forget we played in the UEFA cup and got to the 3 rd round everton won like 4 of there last 5 games and the previous season we was runners up to liverpool
