Saints Win, Swans drew and Spuds lose! Now we just need Newcastle to do us a favor to round off a perfect weekend!
Performance was very poor until we got the goal...All about results at this stage though! Thanks Tim Sherwood as well!
So, we are now in 5th, 2 points ahead of Spurs and Liverpool, with Pool playing on Monday night. Come on Newcastle, you can get at least a point there!
Sounded like we were poor but got the win so that's the main thing, I knew my name change would pay dividends soon Nice one to Villa as well, glad Sherwood won at WHL
We were much better second half, it shows we don't need 2 DM's against sides like Hull, and JWP gave us a lot more attacking threat, especially when Tadić replaced Mané.
Agreed, thought before the game Vic was a bit of a luxury given how our attacking players aren't firing and I hadn't even thought to take into account his bookings which with him haing accrued another one will mean he misses to games that actually suit him down to a T - away at Stoke and then a possibly season-defining (or second half of the season defining) game against Spurs. For me Schneiderlin, JWP, Tadic, Mane and Pelle must start the next one and then the spare spot is up to Reed, Davis and Long with each of the three putting us in very different styles.
Think I would rather see City win. If Man U lose that match, we would be 6 behind them. Then they still have to play Chelsea and Everton away, and Arsenal at home. We can still catch them in GD as well. And that might set up a situation where on the last game of the season, Man C is assured third or second place and a Southampton win/draw would knock Man U out of the top 4. If ever there was a situation for resting your starters that has to be it.
Caught him strongly but eyes were absolutely fixed on the ball so think that saved him, did look like a weird movement though.
Until we got the penalty we didn't look like scoring. Well done Fonte for stopping Mane taking it. So chuffed for Graziano. Boy did he need that.
Just caught up as on way to malvern for few days. Good result but see koeman not happy and that,s rare. The wins the thing though. Interesting that jpw is one of our 2 designated penalty takers. Pleased for pelle.
Nope, not seen a replay (and I didn't really get a good view of it live either). But Steve Wilson (BBC commentator) tweeted to query whether retrospective action might be taken against Pelle, as apparently his yellow wasn't for that actual incident (an elbow, I understand).
Just got in from the game that I really didn't enjoy. Surprisingly thought we looked the 2nd best footballing side with only Morgan and Jose really looking on their game, particularly in the 1st half. Pelle continues to confuse me, his general hold up play is excellent and he also distributes well to teammates, but if we are going to progress I think its the final third we need to look at?
Whilst I do not believe for one single second that we will make top four (just finishing fifth will be hard enough), I do agree that we're more likely to catch Utd than catch City.
Absolutely abject first half - probably our worst of the season. But, credit where it is due, Prowsey made a big difference, and Tadic played very well when he came on. Glad Pelle got his goal, and Spurs lost, so all in all an excellent day.
