I Think managers need to have more faith in the squad when it comes to Europe, they bang on about squad size and then play the same team as they are too afraid to lose.

I'm no fan of rotation though. Not just for the sake of it anyway. I prefer the team to be picked according to tactical requirements and only rest players if they are clearly in need of it.
Of course it's different if you've got a squad big enough and good enough to field two equal teams almost, but I don't see us being in that position any time soon.

I'd say that our squad should be strong enough for us to be able to rotate in Europe without there being a huge drop in the quality of the players. Yes tactical requirements are considered but I feel that managers bang on about squad size and the need for extra players because of Europe but then they don't use the squad because they are too afraid to lose.

Whichever line-up we chose in Europe this season hardly set the competition alight.
The "2nd tier" did ok against Real, but I can't help thinking that Real we're playing in a lower gear because there was nothing at stake for them.

    Just on Rafa and Prem

He out performed arsenal so only Utd and Chelsea were better so I reckon while his cl record was great for us his league form wasn't to be sneezed at

Makes no difference, you sell your old car for £2k and buy another one (hopefully better) for £5k the new car still cost you £5k <ok>

Yes because making transfers is exactly like selling and buying cars.

nah, its speculate to accumulate, initial outlay eventually gets you a better product, your initial outlay is the main purchasing factor, the rest is profit apart of the cost of the upkeep.

Well there are loads of reasons why buying a footballer isn't the same as buying a car. But one of the main ones is that a car doesn't need a salary which is the main negotiating point in a transfer. Without looking at the wage side of things you are only looking at half of the transfer.

In your system of looking at things Joe Cole was a 'free transfer' and cost £0...

? all players require wages, i am refering to the cost of the purchase and this bullshit concept of net or gross transfer fees.
If you sell a player for £3m that money goes into your bank/accounts, if you then buy a player for £6m he has cost you £6m.
Selling assetts to make a purchase does not reduce the cost of the purchase.

With a net spend of 70m!!! That is without the profit we made on Torres, for that 70mil he had amazing success in the Champs League, you know the same competition that everyone creams themselves over, the one that you HAVE to qualify for to attract the top players. Pretty sure his net spend is about the same as Pulis at Stoke!!

This argument is too silly for words.
Of course net spend is the important thing if you're discussing budget restraints. <doh>

So, does the money you receive from player sales not count as part of your budget, is that money still in your account?

Nothing, I was given the car worth £2k and sold it for £5k, so its win win for me Diego.

    Figuratively speaking of course.<laugh>
