Come on Oswald, the Chavs have only been in existence since 2002 and ££££ from 2008, Both Toon and the Black Cats have been going much longer

It's laughable to say Newcastle or Sunderland are bigger than Spurs or Chelsea. If you've got a whole city to yourself you should be getting mammoth crowds, not that it's always been the case anyway. If Keegan's team hadn't bottled it things may have been different but the reality is nothing of note has happened in the North-East (football or otherwise) for decades.

Nobody mentioned Spurs. Everyone knows they are a bigger club.

    Chelsea though? Not so much.

You can fit the population of county Durham into a single London borough. Coupled with the higher levels of affluence and disposable income available to spend on frivolous things like football tickets. London clubs should have the mammoth crowds not the sparsely populated provincial clubs.

££££ and Chav fans are one and the same, last year ££££ gained 50 fans from the Chavs, next season the Chavs will gain the 50 fans back. <laugh>

Arsenal get 60000 or so with the highest prices in the country. Chelsea, dislikeable as they are, could comfortably fill a 50000 stadium and Spurs something similar. West Ham, Palace, QPR, Fulham get maybe 100,000 between them. All the London clubs in the Football League combined get, plucking estimates out the air, over 400,000 a week in a city largely made up of minorities not prone to watching live football with all the competition for entertainment London has to offer. It would be piss poor if Newcastle and Sunderland didn't fill their grounds given the lack of competition.

It really wasn't that long ago that Newcastle's crowds were barely half what they are now and regularly considerably less than that.

You forgot to add Arsenal. Half of London supports United. Probably because theres not one decent club in London.

    Well, except for AFC Wimbledon.

<doh> London has a population of roughly 8 million, Newcastle and Sunderland combined 400,000. You do the maths.
