VDV was a bit of good business but that was a really late deal and he was pushed out the door by Real. Did he really have any other options that late?

The other 3 aren't big names. They were players who'd had good seasons in either weak leagues or at 2nd tier clubs. Eriksen is a fabulous little player but was playing in the Dutch league and no one else were interested. He's turned out to be a steal on hindsight in the same way as Soldardo and Lamela have turned out to be pretty gash.

All in all, you probably could get Coentrao but your deluding yourself if you'd even be in his top 10 of clubs he'd want to go to.

I just don't think Spurs are really on the radar in Europe yet. You need to be consistently in the C.L and challenging for the title to really attract the biggest names. But you don't necessarily need to. Astute buys like Modric and Eriksen can reap just as much reward, just harder to do.

Eriksen was considered a big talent, as was Lamela. As for not being in his top 10 clubs, name 10 teams better than us that would want him.

Eriksen was considered so good, he cost 8 million and no-one else was interested. Anyone from the Dutch league is a massive risk. Fair play it's paid off but he was hardly widely coveted. You spent 35 million on the Argentian Kalou with Lamela.

I didn't say there were 10 teams better than you that would want him, just 10 more he'd rather join. I have no idea who would want him, and neither do you.

So what's your argument? That we're not good enough for Coentrao?

I think other clubs were interested in Eriksen. Whether any of them actually went in for him when we did i have no idea. And neither does anyone else really. I'm sure he was £12m not £8m

You probably are but he's likely to get a few offers from C.L clubs. Then you'll struggle to get him.

Falque was on the books at Barcelona B, but we signed him from Juventus.

Why would we even want Coentrao anyway? He's ****e and would cost a lot more than he's worth. I'd rather have Rose and Davies. Infact I'd take Timmy Atouba over him too for the all step-overs in his own box.

One issue to remember is that in Holland Spurs have very substantial support more so than some teams that make regular CL qualification

Today's dumb transfer rumour: we're looking at bringing in Tom Cleverley on a free this summer. There's only one English midfielder player for a Manchester club that will be out of contract this summer that we should be looking at, and that's James Milner - hopefully he wouldn't expect us to pay him £80k a week like City do.

I'm ready for the window now. The actual games of football are overrated (at least they are for us at the moment)

Other dumb rumours: City and Chelsea battling it out to sign Rose. Actually, this is something we should encourage - we could release Bale from his Madrid nightmare with the fee we'd get for that...

If anyone else is sacking off the election debates tonight then Konoplyanka, a player who I don't think I'm alone in thinking we'd be mad not to try and sign on a free this summer, is on show on BT Sport tonight in the EL.

It didn't take long for the papers to link Villa with our deadwood and fringe players, as they're being linked with Kaboul and Holtby (guess which player fits into which category...)

The only other story of note is we're looking to pip the Spammers to sign Basel centre back Fabian Schar. I know our defence has been iffy this season, but just how many centre backs are we planning on signing this summer?!?

Ok, my knowledge of Basel isn't top notch but was he a big, slow, lumbering CB? Eg, Fazio?

From what I've dug up, Schar is a ball-playing centre back who can read a game to make timely interceptions or blocks - which would make him closer to Vertonghen (preferably the Vertonghen of two seasons ago...) than Fazio.

Also, it should be brought to people's attention that we appear to be using FM15 for our scouting: Dele Alli and Kevin Wimmer are both potential wonderkids on the game, and we signed one of them already - so feign surprise when we sign Ricardo Kishna in August...
