Haha I know mate. Yes my original point was a comparison of Boro to us in terms of stature, location, fanbase to a certain extent.
Agreed on that, my overall conclusion was that anything they can do there's no reason we couldn't match. No excuses like players not wanting to come to the North-East etc.
Just like Bri, I'm guessing here but I reckon Newcastle may have been the only club that, Durham lad, Robson won nowt with. Funny, then, that a Geordie, although strictly speaking a Northumbrian, won the only thing Sunderland have managed in decades. Still he did have the good grace to die in Durham. Another guess is that the 'Mackem Slayer' was nothing of the sort ......... I think his slaying rate against Sunderland was actually quite poor.
Robson is revered for his love of the club rather than his achievements with us, although making Champions League history that still stands today can't be argued with (only team to lose first 3 group games and qualify). No trophies but some amazing times we had with Bobby. Shola doesn't have a great mackem slaying record but he does have an astonishing record of scoring against you, and has rescued us from being defeated by you numerous times.
7 goals in 12 or 13 games wasn't it? Can't argue with that to be fair, there's only Jackie Milburn who has scored more goals for Newcastle against us
Like I said, he's not much of a slayer ........ not much of anything tbh, born in Nigeria, plays for Nigeria but supposed to be a Geordie. I'm more of a Geordie than he is tbh.
Think it ended about 7 in 15 or 16 with his sub appearances and such in the last couple of years. Still, that's about 1 in 2 when over his career he's been about a 1 in 8. Dramatically raised his game against you lot. He moved here when he was a tiny kid He's a Geordie you racist bastard
Comparing Sunderland to Newcastle is akin to comparing who might have the most fragrant ****. Sure, one may smell slightly better than the other but it is still ****! I'd rather both clubs were fighting it out at the top however the way things are going, that won't be likely for a very, very long time (if at all)
Who plays for Nigeria, never forgt his 'roots' I think he only scored winning goals, against us, on 2 or 3 occasions tbh.
i've been wanting to clear this myth up for a while so here are the stats: derby appearances: 8 starts + 6 substitute (14 total) derby goals: 4 + 2 penalties (6 total) winning goals: 0 first derby appearance (sub) 21.04.01 scored first two goals in 3-2 newcastle win 23.10.05 scored equalising penalty in 2-1 sunderland win 25.10.08 scored twice (including one penalty) in 5-1 newcastle win 31.10.10 scored last minute equaliser in 1-1 draw 04.03.12 so, looking at it written down it seems as if Ameobi helped newcastle win a grand total of 4 points in his illustrious career as a 'mackem slayer', never scoring the 'winning' goal. meh
It's just another Geordie myth like never saying 'Geordie Nation', booing Bobby Robson or getting 52,000 for the last 20 years.
