Remember, the actual race can only feature a maximum of 40 runners which will be confirmed in the 'final declaration' at 10am on Thursday. http://www.racingpost.com/horses2/cards/card.sd?race_id=599739&r_date=2015-04-11#raceTabs=sc_ Stick a pin in and hope for the best.
If you are going on any of the three days then be aware that the traffic Nazis will be about in force from an early time. I use the route daily and hate this time of year as I have a heavy right foot and have to tottle along within the speed limit.
Barbaric race, should have been scrapped years ago. Horses being killed just so a bunch of mug punters can line the bookies pockets. No thanks.
I've picked a few already. Your best bet is to go for someone between the 15/1 and 33-1 chances. Most winners have come then. I will also be going for a horse thats 9/10 or 11 years old. I've picked the winner most years too. Will be doing some random tricasts though. Last year's one was 10000/1 return.
I looked at past 50 winners to look at patterns and there are none. The most surprising stat is that there's hardly been a trainer or a jockey that has won it more than once. Every year seems to bring new trainer and new winning jockey. So I'm staying well clear of AP mccoy, pineau de re or any horses trying to win it again. Very interesting stat is Jockey Paul Maloney has been in top 2nd 3rd or 4th in the last 6 years , so a must for tricast/EW bets. Interesting read (not that it helps pick the winner ) http://www.grand-national-guide.co.uk/grand-national-trends.php
Updated: This is the list to use if you're running a sweepstake... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/horse-racing/grand-national-2015-runners-maximum-5484206
I'm thinking Bathazar King win, and a couple of long shots for e/w bets. I'm only going for a couple of interest bets, it's far too unpredictable.
I think you are better off going with horses and jockeys that do well in the National, but if your stat about Moloney is correct then I think this year is probably the one that the law of averages will wipe him out, will see if he places anyway, not sure if he's on one of mine or not
Moloney is on ALVARADO who finished 4th last year, statistically the right age, carrying ideal weight and is experienced over the fences....currently 16/1
Not one of the ones i picked, I've not really bothered looking at the form this year, went for First Lieutenant with the lady jockey, and Rainbow Hunter/the Druids Nephew based on not much at all
Don't get me wrong, I'm going to pick names and numbers I like Because there isn't any way of telling. You might as well apply same skill as when you pick lottery numbers but I thought it was rather interesting that very few of the big jockeys actually win more than once. this is the past 20 years 2014 Pineau De Re 11 10-06 Dr Richard Newland Leighton Aspell 25/1 2013 Auroras Encore 11 10-03 Mrs S Smith Ryan Mania 66/1 2012 Neptune Collonges 11 11-06 P Nicholls D Jacob 33/1 2011 Ballabriggs 10 11-00 D McCain J Maguire 14/1 2010 Don't Push It 10 11-05 J O'Neill AP McCoy 10/1JF 2009 Mon Mome 9 11-00 Miss V Williams L Treadwell 100/1 2008 Comply Or Die 9 10-09 D E Pipe T Murphy 7/1JF 2007 Silver Birch 10 10-06 G Elliott R M Power 33/1 2006 Numbersixvalverde 10 10-08 M Brassil N P Madden 11/1 2005 Hedgehunter 9 11-01 W P Mullins R Walsh 7/1F 2004 Amberleigh House 12 10-10 D McCain G Lee 16/1 2003 Monty´s Pass 10 10-07 JJ Mangan B J Geraghty 16/1 2002 Bindaree 8 10-04 N A Twiston-Davies J Culloty 20/1 2001 Red Marauder 11 10-11 N B Mason Richard Guest 33/1 2000 Papillon 9 10-12 T M Walsh R Walsh 10/1 1999 Bobbyjo 9 10-00 T Carberry P Carberry 10/1 1998 Earth Summit 10 10-05 N A Twiston-Davies C Llewellyn 7/1F 1997 Lord Gyllene 9 10-00 S A Brookshaw A Dobbin 14/1 1996 Rough Quest 10 10-07 T Casey M A Fitzgerald 7/1F 1995 Royal Athlete 12 10-06 Mrs J Pitman J F Titley 40/1 1994 Miinnehoma 11 10-08 M C Pipe R Dunwoody 16/1
I've gone for a few tricasts and forecasts but my singles are on spring heeled druids nephew saint are court by surprise
The National is one of those events where, like many others, I face a quandary. Do I follow my heart or my head? My head thinks about the horses and jockeys who get injured every year (or killed in the case of the horses) but my heart relishes the pageant and the colour and the drama. Yet again, the heart will win tomorrow. For what it's worth my money is on Night in Milan and, for an outsider, Wyck Hill.
