McLaren boss refuses to give up on British Grand Prix.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14095100.stm
Jenson who is praying for rain as must Lewis, but if it's dry I would expect to see Lewis fight it out with Nico for a long, LONG! time. Unless he can get him out of the way early it's only going to get harder if it doesn't rain. Luckily for Lewis Nico is sometimes scared to go for it at the start and will mostly be the first man to blink, but he might not do it this time, like he has done on a few occasions already. Next in line is Kamui and Maldonado which I'm pritty sure wont make it easy for him, maybe even trying to push him off the circuit slightly to show whose boss. At this point maybe 20-30 laps have gone and Di Resta at the time is just tracking Jenson with DRS/KERS trading places. If it's bone dry though Jenson will most likely go backwards, maybe even losing to Lewis in the end, while Di Resta could be the best of the Brits tommorow. In wet conditions though they both might pull a big enough gap on Lewis before he has any time to catch up with all the fighting he has done previously. He might make contact with Kamui or Maldonado at this point, lap 35+ could see him making a real do or die overtake(s) to salvage points. Lets also not forget the kind of people behind him, (Sutil, Perez and Schumacher), so 2 Mercedes powered engines and 1 Ferrari are ready to jump him into the first real corner. Schumacher is very good on starts this year, he could get infront of Lewis if he doesn't watch his back. He cant afford to be stuck behind Nico let alone Schumacher early on, they are quick enough to hold him back for 10+ laps even if it is futile fight with rapid tyre degrading, but if this tyre degradation doesn't happen you will see Lewis stare at a Mercedes diffuser the whole grand prix. My predictions: 4///5th-Good start infront of Nico and Schumacher, conditions wet. (Just needs to keep a cool head) 6th///8th-Gets stuck behind Nico or Schumacher, same weather as above. (Unable to get past Merc's early on, in the end playing catch up to Kamui/Maldonado) 9th///Out of points-Sutil, Schumacher and Perez also get infront, weather is dry the whole way. (Jenson is praying for rain, Lewis must be doing the same.) The start for Lewis tommorow is very, very important since this grand prix could really hurt McLaren.
Well I wouldn't be surprised if we see both Red Bulls in the Top 3 and with one of them winning. I agree that Fernando is the dark horse of this championship. He is a driver you simply cannot count out until the championship for Ferrari becomes a mathematical impossibility. I would personally prefer to see Jenson Button come ahead of Hamilton - everytime. Jense has been a model world champion as has Seb. From that point of view I'm a happy bunny. In my heyday of following F1, Silverstone used to throw up winners other than the favourites. There is nothing to assume that this year will not go according to plan for a certain drinks company. Enjoy pals
If it rains i'm picking Kobayashi. If it stays dry i'll stick with Mark Webber. He's looked unbeatable this weekend.
Where has this idea that McLaren will slip further back tommorow come from? They surely can't be slower than the likes of force india/Williams
Well Jenson and Lewis are praying for rain, so that rear might be worse then first thought. Lewis: “I enjoyed the changeable weather conditions today, but it’s disappointing to have ended up so far behind. For Q3, we fitted a used set of Options for our first run when the others ran new tyres, and that hurt our performance. Then, when we fitted new tyres for the final run, it started raining so I couldn’t improve my time. I think there are a couple of guys in front of me who ought to be slower than me, so I’ll do my best to make progress in the early laps even though overtaking here is difficult. I hope we can still have an exciting race, but it’ll be tricky. I guess I’ll be hoping for rain tomorrow to increase my chances of getting a good result. Nevertheless, the fans here are the best in the world - they’re sensational in fact - and they’ll spur me on in the race. I really hope I can do something special for them tomorrow.”
Well obviously. They know it is the only way they can win or be in the podium. It is nothing to suggest they will slip backwards.
Not sure, they cant attack the high speed corners as much now compared to Red Bull and Ferrari in the dry. They're looking to get into the clutches of the midfield if it stays dry IMO. Rain stops the effect of blown diffusers to a limited amount across the circuit and not a 2-3 second a lap problem in dry/wet conditions.
Interesting race in store tomorrow, if vettel gets ahead of Webber at the start i will be dissapointed. Another thing to watch is Alonso in 3rd for the jump on Vet, and how much Mclarens race pace can improve ? All in all should be a good ole british race.
A few facts: - Massa hasnt lost any positions at the starts in 2011 (to my knowledge) - Ferraris KERS is superior to Red Bulls system - Since getting a new clutch in Spain, Alonsos starts have been mostly good Red Bull must be worried about Ferrari, especially with Fernando on the clean side. Even if RB keep Nando behind, we ehave an interesting race where Alonso will be putting a lot of pressure on Red Bull, based on how close qualifying was. I cant wait.
It's a sad state of affairs when I'm reduced to cheering on Alonso AT SILVERSTONE !!!! <hangsheadinshame>
Well, rain or shine, I fully expect the McLarens to fall into the clutches of the HRTs by the first corner
