I didn't want to type loads and it not work like some threads. I'm not going to go over old ground and explain why Grayson is terrible at all aspects of football management again, but I do want to deal with some of the issues raised here. First of all, how do you know it's not Snodin who is behind all the good things? When Dennis Wise was manager everyone said Gus was the brains behind our success, why is it the other way round with Snodin? He's a respected coach who has worked in the Premier League and international football. Also, I believe that Gwyn Williams is responsible for unearthing the hidden gems, such as Beckford, Becchio, Somma, Nunez, Grella etc. And Grayson is responsible for garbage like Neill Collins and Billy Paynter. That would explain why Collins and Paynter had far too many opportunites, while Somma, Nunez and Grella, players who have shown real talent, are ignored. It's lucky that Beckford and Becchio were established before Grayson arrived, and he's even dropped them! Playing 4-5-1 wasn't a masterstroke, he stumbled upon it by accident against S****horpe, when I'd been wanting us to play that way for 4 years. And who's is to say it wasn't Snodin's idea? And because it worked so well, Grayson ended up using it in games where 4-4-2 would have been better, and when people recognised that, he switched to 4-4-2 in games where 4-5-1 would have worked better. Spanish, some people can afford to shop in Waitrose but feel more comfortable shopping in Asda. You see plenty of blokes that look like Grayson in Asda, you won't see many in Waitrose. Think about that.
Clive.... some of your points are not all wrong... yes Grayson has made mistakes havent we all at some time in our work place....nobdy is perfect. Grayson works with little money and he is giving his best..in the long term non of us know where that will be good enough. The supermarket quote was about our buying policy and was meant to be light hearted...the reality is yes if you look around there are some bargings to be had... Football is so different i know clubs Leicester and others who will pay an extra 10k a week just to get someone...Ken is not going to do that..so we have what we have. Lets see... But please Clive lets see a few positive posts
We had a brilliant talent spotter in Paul Hart, he made the kids we had under DO'L and has since been found out not to be the best of managers himself, so perhaps being the youth coach and talent spotter is his level. Highly rate Hart in this capacity and would welcome his return.
Is Grayson a Brain Clough without a Peter taylor? No - he's more a Stan Laurel without Oliver Hardy please log in to view this image
Really? Because I remember us playing that formation for the first 2 games of the season... odd. So you've decided that all the good signings aren't his? Nice way of dodging that issue. Somma's been given every chance and has shown he is better as a sub, Nunez has only just completed his first season in Europe and Grella has an attitude problem. So it's how he looks? Of course! You've made me change my mind now!
The point I was trying to make is that Grayson and Bates both say he's never been refused a player, so either they're both lying, or Grayson is intimidated by quality players and daren't spend big money for fear of a huge backlash if it ended up being wasted. Simon Grayson is a professional football manager at one of the biggest clubs in the country. The kind of mistakes he's making are unacceptable, and he won't admit to them or learn from them.
You remember wrong then, because we played a rigid 4-3-3 at the start of the season and Bradley Johnson lacked the discipline to sit, which left us totally exposed and outplayed by a poor Derby team. You've just tried to argue that Somma, Nunez and Grella aren't good enough. Now try and argue that Collins, Paynter, Bessone etc are. I've given Grayson credit for Gradel, Kisnorbo and Schmeichel, but perhaps Williams was responsible for those too. And he's just sold Schmeichel and basically said he was useless anyway.
There's a ignore function on this site Danny, use it and you don't have to put up with the arsehole and his repetitive boring posts or just abuse the ****
Thought I would resurrect this thread, interesting point, I do think Grayson needs a better team around him, by which I mean a recognisable name, prefably also a defensive coach....
This isn't going to be a popular comment, but the more I read Clivetime's posts the more he makes sense. Obviously not when he was disrupting threads with his anti Grayson bile, & when he kept going on about how great a manager Macca was, but he used to make some interesting points. Essentially he's asking if Snodin's a Peter Taylor without a Brian Clough, or a Les Cocker without a Don Revie? In all fairness it's a reasonble enough question.
