SANTIAGO VERGINI staying

SANTIAGO VERGINI is almost-certain to pen a two-year deal at Sunderland, if the Black Cats remain in the Premier League.

Vergini is on a season-long loan at the Stadium of Light from Costa Rican outfit Sport Uruguay de Coronado, yet that stint looks increasingly likely to become a permanent stay for the Argentine defender.

We have a decent defensive record this season, its partly down to Vergini, he is a decent player, just needs to cut out some of the silly challenges as he looks very capable of giving away a pen just about every game.

With Brown at the end of his career and JOS not that far behind we need to sign a quality centre back this summer as well as replacement for Coates who is not good enough. Keeping Vergini is a must on top of all that.

 

I thought there was some issue over third party ownership here which is why we have had him on loan twice now.

Has that gone away?

Good point, Riever. I seem to remember when we first got him on loan he was registered for a Uruguayan side in Montevideo. But the club owner owned Vergini, not the actual club. Now, the Echo is saying Vergini is owned by a Costa Rican side. I don't have any answers. But you're right in pointing out something has changed.
