TheBear... When you say the bundesliga has been the most 'competitive' European league for the last few years, what exactly do you mean? That many teams compete for the title? That many different teams qualify for the CL (disregarding the fact they all get KO'd)?
Chelsea didnt lose 15 players though including several members of the first team. And Chelsea spending less than us once in a decade counts for nothing unfortunately. We shall see what happens going forward but van Gaal is currently on course to meet target. United aim to win the title next season. It will be interesting to say the least.
United winning the title next season after spending another £150m will be proof to you that Van Gaal is an elite manager? Fair enough... Whatever floats your boat.
****. Didnt realise you worked for United. Who we signing and for how much? Btw, you claim Jose is elite yet he spends huge sums almost every season. A low spend last summer equated to £85million.... Pocket change huh? Your arguments just dont stack up.
No. I was claiming that the Bundesliga is a very competitive league now and will be overtaking the EPL - if it hasn't already. You don't judge the quality of a side based on 1-2 games. Also if we were to do that.. It would only go to prove my point considering the German sides have been beating us regularly in Europe. Werder Bremen beat Chelsea 3-0 this term. Bremen are currently 9th in the Bundesliga. In the last five years of the Champions League, the German Bundesliga has produced 40% of finalists and Spain's La Liga 30%, with the Premier League lagging behind at 20%.- again despite the fact we have MORE teams in the competition.
But none of that has anything to do with the league's competitiveness. So what do you mean by competitiveness? The finalists are Bayern and Dortmund once. They won't be there again. So it's just Bayern. Yeah, that's one more than us, but that's not a competitive league. So it's the term competitive I'm not getting. They have one powerhouse team that contributes to that 40% figure.
Is it really better? Its had a better year no doubt but over a sustained period? I see what you are saying but in my view PL teams just lack any tactical awareness and are easily out thought by teams on the continent. We need more intelligent and tactically astute managers. The sooner tye pace and power obsession ends, the better.
So if you don't spend much you think you're on course to win the league with your current squad? Jose wins whether he spends or not... He's just elite enough to only be at clubs where he CAN spend oodles now which means he always will.
van Gaals never been a spender. This summer he spent more than hes ever spent (it might even be more im total tbh). I think we need a few more additions. A centre back and an attacker (wing or forward). I have an idea who these players will be and the cost is closer to £70million.
You take the piss out of me for writing stuff that reads like I work for United and you come up with pap like that? He's never been a spender but you think he'll spend £70m this summer on top of £150m last year? Can you not see how absurd that sentence was?
Nope. Hes never been a spender. 1 or 2 years in management compared with 2 decades of spending very little doesmt make him a spender. These are very much the exception. £70million will finish the rebuild. After that it just need to be refreshed until the next rebuild. £270m to replace almost half our squad isnt all that bad to be honest.
They are all better. It is pretty obvious why. You just don't want to accept your current manager isn't as good as he used to be. As for Ancelotti, he's made 4 Champions League finals in 12 years, winning 3 of them. Fergie won 2 in 27 years. SAF or Mourinho cannot boast that. Perhaps he should have won a few more titles at Milan, but they had stern competition in Inter and Juventus. Unlike van Gaal who won the one-team league at Bayern. There shouldn't be much argument here - Ancelotti is a better manager than van Gaal. He did an amazing job at Barcelona and has done a very good job at Bayern Munich too. As for him being your next manager, we will see. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. As for him not being able to implement a style but expand on it - I don't agree. He would have brought in a more expansive, positive style of play had he taken over instead of Moyes. You know it as well as I do. Already been listed; Simeone is a better manager than van Gaal. So is Ancelotti. So is Klopp although he's had a bad season. As is Mourinho. As is Guardiola. Not saying you had a realistic shot of getting these managers but they would all have done a better job than LvG.
Desperately hope Michael Owen says we won't win the League or the FA Cup please log in to view this image
Are those genuine? Does he write predictions for a paper or are they tweets? He's rapidly running into one of my favourite pundits because he's so bad he becomes funny!
The 'Sterling is miles better than Ozil and maybe just a little bit better than Welbeck' was his greatest comedic contribution to the world.
Ancelotti is a cup manager. I dont rate cup managers because cup managers tend to give up on the one thing that sets apart the very best. Hes really nothing special and one of the most overrated managers in the game. 3 league titles ffs. Awful considering the clubs hes managed.
