First move I would make as PM in the obesity matter would be to increase VAT by 100% on all sugary/fatty and take away foods and cut VAT by 15% on all meat, fish, veg and most fruits <ok>

Some fruits are full of sugar. I'd also levy the VAT on fruit juice and those bastard energy drinks too.
Didn't realise there isn't a VAT on foods. Well I would put a huge VAT on the unhealthy foods and bring the prices of fruit, veg, fish, meats right down. It made me sick when the Olympics were here, Britain tried to paint a legacy of fit and healthy kids/society yet it was sponsored by McDonalds and Coke <doh>

Vat is just another tax on the poor anyway.....Vat should be abolished all together and increase wages at the bottom of the scale so people can afford to eat more healthy. Its because of poverty which is getting worst that families have little choice than to eat cheap unhealthy foods...

Like I say, hike a huge VAT on all of the cheap unhealthy foods and take away foods plus energy drinks and fruit juices and cut healthy food prices and make them cheap for everyone. That's the ONLY way to reduce the obesity epidemic in this country (barring those with medical conditions of course). They should also make leisure gym prices more accessible as they have now become a rip off at over £5 an hour.
Its another example in this country of big businesses i.e. McDonalds, KFC etc dictating government policy.

And the first thing that the Left would say is that the Government is hurting the poor by taxing food that 'hard working families' eat. The hypocisy is staggering.

Not if these 'killer foods' (as that is what they are) are vastly over priced and healthy foods made cheap for all household budgets. If you can't grow it or kill it, then we don't need it <cheers>

I don't disagree with that statement - I eat healthily, don't drink to excess (well, very rarely) and am in the gym 4 times a week, so you're pushing at an open door with me. But as someone else has said, people are lazy. Making a homemade meal as opposed to opening something from the freezer bought at Iceland? I know what I'd pick but people don't. Any government who carried out this policy would get heaps of criticism from the Left side of politics and you know it.

I can see it now, Milliband: "This is yet another attack on hard working families who already have tight budgets. The way forward is surely to educate, not punish."

    Sounds about right. eh? <laugh>

But as I say, slash the prices by 100% if needs be so that every household can afford the healthy foods. Also by increasing the VAT by 100% on all fatty foods and take aways such as KFC and McDonalds etc, that would force people to buy the cheaper but by far, the more healthier option when they shop and in the long term, save the NHS billions and billions of pounds because of obesity related health problems. I would also make it illegal to sell energy drinks in Britain too as it's criminal seeing children on the streets, schools etc drinking this ****. May as well pour a bag of sugar down their throats.

"But as I say, slash the prices by 100% if needs be" <laugh> Who is going to pay for that? The benefits will take years to kick in and in the meantime you're looking at a tax increase for every worker to pay for it or some other service that'll have to be cut. Yes that'll be really popular. Not!

Or the government can chase the £30 billion that the rich and powerful companies avoid paying in tax. Very simple way of funding this. I would also stop foreign aide to countries like India who have recently spent billions on a space project. Wouldn't cut all foreign aide though.
Close all tax avoidance loopholes and it would pay for this suggestion overnight.

Is it possible that the rich, powerful dictators that are also called captains of industry that feed the population want to feed us the cheapest highest profit for them materials with some food stuff added which can also control life span so that the deadly effects mostly kick in just after retirement age when we no longer pay them taxes ? plus the huge profits for their drug companies supplying demand by causing it ?

If i wanted to put a new product on the market that has side effects that cause the most horrible illnesses and death in a high volume to long term users i think it would get rejected out of hand and ridiculed mostly because the taxes they could get their hands on from it would be condemned to much for their liking these days !

So why do our guardians of the people still allow ***s and high volume alcohol the ones which are known to be sold at strengths that wreck bodies quicker to still be sold to anybody ? That`s how much they care about the people ! profit n power before anything else is their mantra !

Or how about taking personal responsibility for your own health instead of blaming big business? Now there's a novelty.

That makes all healthy foods free! Is that what you meant? Free food for all - I think that would be a vote-winner <laugh>

Healthy foods can be too pensive for families with little or low incomes.
